ARAM - Almost Random, Actually Monotanous

TL;DR You see the same 20-30 champs constantly, pls stop, here is a possible idea.

The topic of the ARAM algorithm has been brought up before, but I haven't seen anyone propose an alternative. And yes, I do believe an alternative is needed. Because that feel when you get Cho'Gath for the fourth consecutive game in a row, re-roll into Nunu, then re-roll again into Cho'Gath. Not that re-rolling into the same champion can't happen when it's random, just that sometimes I'm tired of playing Cho'Gath OKAY

ARAM would be infinitely more enjoyable if ALL champions were unlocked and available (with the same percent chance to be picked).

BUT

I understand that if all champions are available, why would people need IP? There would be no reason to buy champs/skins/etc. Which is no bueno. But if the above "true random" was combined with another rule.. say, buying a champion increases the chance of it being selected, then there wouldn't really be any downsides. Although people could just buy the champs for other game modes, or to get skins/mastery points/key frags. But I thought it'd be better to suggest something that prompted normal spending.

This could also exist as an second ARAM mode, much like when selecting blind or draft for SR games.

Thoughts?

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs] pls rito jus do it

The general popular opinion in ARAM community is that all champs should be unlocked. On my EUNE ARAM account i play with gold, plat, and diamond players. At that point unless you only have ARAM op champs it becomes painfull.

I don't care what they do in order to have all champs free for ARAM. But it needs to happen. I don't want to own and play same champs over and over again to have a chance to win.

"I understand that if all champions are available, why would people need IP? " because SR is the games main attraction? There is a RGM(One For All I think) where you can play champs you dont even have unlocked anyway.

Besides, playing a champ you never owned may be the incentive to go out and buy it, and maybe skins. It's not like you're guaranteed to get a champ you don't own

Enabling all champs for ARAM isn't a new suggestion. Besides the IP issue that you mentioned, the other counterpoint that's frequently raised is that some people (often casual players) simply don't want to play every champ. They're okay with playing a random champ, but not if it's pulled from the full roster. Regardless of why they only enjoy certain champs, enabling all champs would be a major downgrade to ARAM for these people.

And their perspective is certainly valid. Although unlocking the full roster would be good for veterans and/or competitive players, ARAM has worked around a limited roster for years. It's definitely long enough for people to be accustomed to and enjoy ARAM as it currently is.

As such, my preferred solution would be to add a new ranked ARAM queue that has all champs available. Meanwhile, a blacklist/whitelist feature would be added to the current unranked queue. This way casuals can continue enjoying ARAM as they're used to. Plus, competitive players can practice specific champ subsets when/if they want. IP would still be useful to own champs for unranked; casuals wouldn't be negatively affected by the change; competitive players would still have a more random ARAM.
