using assassins top vs tanks

Played a game Nocturne (me), Darius, Miss Fortune, Blitz Crank, Katarina, and I. Darius went 1/14, blitz was like 1/10, I was positive and katarina was positive. Miss fortune was like 6/8.

Anyway their team had yi, vayne, zyra, fizz, and soraka. Yi 17/10, Vayne 11/5, fizz 13/7, soraka 0/1, and zyra 2/4/12. All of them had decent farm.

The game started out early game with darius getting ganked, falling down to like 20 hp but making it to tower, then leaving tower to try to get a kill on both of them with his 20 hp, and getting q;ed by yi. YI has a gold advantage. He fed fizz and yi a total of 10 more times during laning phase making it difficult for me to carry or even gank since they both had enough gold to kill darius and I.

Anyway I was curious, if an assassin wins top lane, isnt that better than a tank. Because ADCS are designed to kill tanks, Assassins kill adc. I always have trouble with enemy vaynes late game as tanks because no matter how much damage you do, she has like 3 forms of evade (Q, E, and flash).

Assassins like fizz would just take out miss fortune in 1 hit. Darius could not take out vayne in 1 hit.

Isnt it more useful to pick assassins ?

ADCs arent designed to kill tanks, they are designed to kill towers and deal tons of damage to any and everyone overtime.

If an assassin wins toplane thats fine and all but what difference does it make if your team can't teamfight later

tanks are great for teamfighting, assassins tend to be more like lone wolves or clean up crew

assasins like fizz would 1 shot miss fortune IF she and her team did nothing about it, which often wont be the case as you go up against stronger teams.

Darius could not kill vayne in one hit but darius also wont run away when the enemy assassin goes after YOUR adc. He will ride them like a damn pony

Also darius isnt a tank, he's a fighter. A real tank is an assassin's worst nightmare

Problem is Tanks scale better late game so a assassin can win lane but the tank can make a comeback fairly easily and be productive in team fights more than the assassin can

I define a tank as a champion with massive defenses and the ability to initiate a team fight or to peel for one or more allies.

Except when 3 consecutive seconds of hard CC is enough to give a carry a triple, quadra, or penta at the 45+ minute mark, enabling a final push to victory while the survivors, if any, of that fight end up killed under turret as soon as the tank's abilities come off CD well before any of the dead come back!

And if any of the previously killed do come back before game over, they'll just end up rushing to their deaths in a futile attempt to prevent the inevitable destruction of their nexus one...by...one.

Tanks are champions with high defense and high amounts of CC. That's the best way to say what's a tank or bruiser(off-tank/their bs rename "fighter")

Darius doesn't have a place in ranked play anymore in my opinion. He's fun to play, sure, but his immobility and short range make him a standing target for most anything. He isn't really a tank either. He doesn't have the CC or range or gap closure to initiate team fights and when he does initiate a fight, the enemy can either ignore him and take out squishy targets and then escape him before he lands all his stacks on anything or focus him down so he cannot threaten them. If the latter happens then it's Darius who needs peel from allies and a fighter who needs peel is forcing the team to decide whether to allow the fighter to die or use resources in a less than optimal manner.

I bought and played Darius to 5 for one reason and that was to learn all his weaknesses. I played him well sometimes, but if he doesn't get an early kill then he will have little to no use to the team.

Darius isnt tank. He is juggernaut. And tbh he is useless and weak. Fizz can easily beat him.0

Er... if your jungler is kinda tanky you CAN. The reason that top lane is usually a tank is that... most teams need a tank. Tanks initiate fights for their team, and do more damage than you think before they're put down. What's more, tanks tend to handle assassins well... AND top is a lousy lane to roam from (barring teleports). Tanks also tend to bring utility in the form of CC or the like that assassins lack.

Ever play a match when the enemy is strong but they just can't seem to pick a good fight because they're all squishy and if they go in, they die almost instantly? Malphite never has that problem. Malphite goes in hard. Malphite wins teamfights. Zed doesn't win teamfights unless he's massively ahead. Zed did not get massively ahead against Malphite. This is the eternal dance of life.

But seriously, assassin tops CAN work, you just need to know WHEN to use them. Not every assassin can top and not every game calls for one. If your team is very squishy, you probably don't want to do it. If your team lacks engage, you probably don't want to do it. If the enemy team is heavy on tanky fighters and/or bruisers you probably don't want to do it. Diving the adc for a kill won't matter too much if you die immediately afterwards and then your entire team gets wrecked by Maokai and Hecarim or something. Assassins... REAL assassins, not this tank-assassin BS that's everywhere now... assassins are squish and lack CC. They mostly just have damage and mobility. Pick too many into a team and unless you all snowball you're probably gonna have a bad time.

Problem is, its generally harder to win lane as an assassin vs a tank.. There are a few exceptions like Rengar vs Mundo.. But in general, its tough. Aside from that, you are top lane which is a far roam to bot lane to find their ADC. If your assassin is mid or jungle, the enemy ADC is much more accessible. And no, TP isn't a fix all solution. The best top lane assassin that i see utilize TP for bot lane ganks is Akali.
