Akali needs to be reworked
Akali is a champion that has been mentioned for a rework by riot so the thought is already there, I just want to share why I think it is so strongly needed. Akali is an assassin, which in theory makes her a champion that has a high risk and high reward style of gameplay, and her success depends on the players ability to use her effectively. However, I feel as though whether or not she is able to win lane is entirely dependent on the matchup she is in. A lane opponent that akali is strong against seems to have little to no chance of turning the lane around no matter what they do, and there are a few reasons why I think that is. Since akali is an assassin, her kit is centered around doing high amounts of damage in short burst, but that assumes she doesn't have much sustained damage. Another characteristic of other assassins is their very small amount of sustain in lane. However, she shares neither of these traits, despite having the burst and snowball potential of other assassins. In a situation where akali isn't being harassed out of lane, she can proc her passive on one minion wave three times, enough to take her from half health to full, simply by auto-attacking minions. This is a trait that is normally only applied to champions that don't have high burst or strong trading potential, however, akali has all three. A perfect example of a lane that this creates a problem is against riven. Riven is a champion that normally has a tough time against assassins in the early game because they simply outdamage her, but if she is able to reach 6 without being behind in exp or gold she wins in an all in simply because the assassin doesn't have enough to burst to kill her through her shield while one full riven combo post 6 is enough to 100-0 any squishy target in the game. However, akali is another story. 1on1 if both akali and riven get off a full combo pre level 6, riven slightly out damages akali. But as soon as that trade is over, akali almost already has her q back up and if she procs the second half of her second q it is enough damage for her to have won the trade. This allows akali to zone riven from csing until her abilities are back up. During this time if akali procs her passive, she gets a little bit of health back and will be about even with riven at this point. Then riven can either trade with akali again or use her abilities to get cs. If riven trades with akali, akali eventually outsustains and kills her. And if riven farms to level 6, akali wins in an all in because she has enough damage to kill riven with one full combo post 6 before riven is able to burst her down simply because of the health she gets back on her passive. If akali were brought to a point where either her damage matched that of other lane sustain champs, or if her sustain was brought to a level equal to that of other assassins, I feel that it would solve the problem. I don't believe akali needs a nerf, I feel overall she is actually relatively weak in the meta. I just think she is too strong in her easy lanes, while too weak in her difficult lanes. If you feel differently or can tell me of a way to beat akali as riven, please feel free to post below. I would love any constructive advice on how riven should play against akali.
