Champion Select: Secondary Choice Weighting is Too High

TL;DR - I'm ADC/Support when it comes to Primary/Secondary choices and I wait about 2 seconds to find a game but in soloq, I get ADC once every 5 games.

I main ADC. Last season, I played a butt load of Jungle because the tank meta just felt good for my style but as far as jungle goes these days... I feel a bit off. So when the new champion select came out, naturally ADC was my first pick and I decided that support would be a good 2nd for two reasons: I stay in the lane I'm most comfortable in, and I figured that anyone picking support primary would get their choice WAY before me and I'd never play it.

Turns out, I play support every 4 out of 5 games. Granted, I wait about 2 seconds to find a game when the expected time is about 1:40... I'm finding it very hard to play a traditional support (as in, Janna, Alistar, Leona, etc) and have a meaningful impact. I can make all the pulls, all the disengages, I want but if my ADC happens to be someone with little mechanical control who continuously puts themselves in a bad position... doesn't matter how well I do, in the long run. The only way I've found to always play ADC is to play with my friend, who's primary choice is Support, so naturally he'll get it.

So now I find myself having to learn a role I'm not as comfortable with... just to play the role I am comfortable with.

Can we maybe get some sort of... weighting adjustment, even a custom one? If I could tell my game "Only pick my secondary choice if I've been waiting >3 minutes to find my primary choice"... that'd be great.

Seems it just depends on what the more popular roles are. I imagine support is the least popular by far. I main top, and I pick top/jungle when I queue. I get top about 8/10 games. Mid seems to be a tough one to get, and picking support or fill as your secondary always seems to land me in the support role.

I don't know why they call it Primary/Secondary. As far as the queue is concerned, they are both Primary and you will get thrown into a team that has an opening for either of your Primaries.

If your secondary choice is support or fill. I would be willing to bet close to 90% of your games you will be placed at support or jungle.

Riots new genius dynamic queue system destroyed queue times because so few people pick support as their role in either slot. The issue is much greater on the EU side I hear.

Basically a problem we always worked out with ourselves in ranked, is now a new problem for Riot. One in which will always exist in the queue system as long as they continue to let us determine what roles we want to play.

If they make a true soloQ this will still exist. On the other hand in dynamic queue.. whenever the two houses are separated, this would be less of an issue because Riot makes groups queue covering at least 2 roles. 2 people have to cover 3 roles, 3 people 4, etc. So in theory once solo Q is removed from dynamic queue, the dynamic queues could have much shorter queue times because people are forced to pick a less popular role.

Solo Q will always have fewer people picking support or fill, and those who do as a secondary option will likely continue to see the system immediately make that their "primary option".
