Varus Buff idea?

Ackerlyte·2/11/2015, 1:18:59 AM·14 votes·3,213 views

Varus is known for his low mobility, secondly I believe that Varus is well balanced in the terms of damage output and utility. Now my idea to make him a mid to high tier adc is to add a movement speed buff of 8% (equal to a triforce) for 1.5 seconds when Varus procs his blight stacks. Just an idea. Tell me what you think?

I don't think mobility is really Varus's thing (he's one of those champions designed around really terrible mobility). The main problem with him right now is that there's a lot on his kit that is either not really available at the right times (his passive), or not as impactful as it could be (his E). He also falls off a little in the late game, despite having the tools to burst down tanks. Changes I'd like to see on him:

  • On his passive: remove the activation on minion kill, shorten the duration to 3 seconds, but have it activate every time Varus detonates three stacks of Blighted Quiver on any unit (and perhaps have the attack speed bonus increase with level). It would cut some of his laning strength, but would give him a much more reliable source of attack speed.
  • (Maybe) Have his Q charge speed increase with Varus's bonus attack speed (so he'd have to channel for less to make the most of it). Thematically, I think it would make sense, and it would also make it easier for Varus to charge his Q to full mid-fight later on, since most of the time (or from personal experience, at least) it's just quick-casted to detonate Blight stacks, as otherwise charging it would actually reduce his DPS.
  • On Hail of Arrows: remove the Grievous Wounds, but have enemies on the ground gain Blight stacks and its bonus magic damage every second (and perhaps increase the slow). GW is not a particularly impactful mechanic, even if it's actually really effective at reducing healing (it's actually probably too effective, and likely the reason behind some seriously OP healing on a few sustain-based champions), so I think it would be better to make the ability better at pinning enemies down and working in tandem with his Blight mechanic, and not just as another finisher. It would also give AP Varus a little boost, as he otherwise has no real reason to use his Q or E besides for Blight stack detonations.

What do you think?

Remake his passive

I think Varus needs something, and that might just be it!

For some reason, everyone seems to think that ADCs nowadays NEED mobility.

This change has potential Varus would finally have and escape mechanism other than burning flash or wasting ult. Additionally this would make him a bit more on the engage side, I.E; out trades enemy adc has stacks of bligh allied jungler is behind enemy piercing arrow on enemy adc gives varus some ms allowing him to close in for his ult, burn enemy adc flash, or pressure them even more to set up for objectice control. i could see this change being quite beneficial.

Maybe it scales up to 8% based on how many stacks he pops.

With that addition, all Varus has to do is auto once and throw a spell for the full boost. He should work for it, imo.

And before you get annoyed that I'm not all in favor of it, I say we should buff his damage before mobility. This change is nice, but I still feel that Varus should really sting as opposed to suddenly being more swift.

My secret dream is that I always wished Varus could shoot out multiple arrows Runaan's style.

I would suggest only one change to Varus.

When he enters 'just killed a champion' Innate mode his auto-attacks can now detonate 3-stacks of Blight. That would cement him as the snowball Ranger and allow him to slip into high DPS much more easily once he secures a kill or assist.

What if they made his passive so that whenever he gets a shut down kill his Q gains like 5 range or something Or permanent plus 5 ad idek

DisasterSola2/11/2015, 1:23:47 AM1 votes

Eh. Ehhh. Seems out of place IMO.

Living vengence and blighted quiver should be switched, and living vengence should be made into an active.

He keeps getting this minor, ALMOST QoL buffs. His Q damage went up recently, just got his missile width on R widened a bit... These things are adding up. I notice it when I play him. These sorts of minor buffs are exactly the thing he needs, imo.

Your idea is nice, too, though. If he does get a bigger rework, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this came through. In my opinion, adcs all need some kind of escape mechanism. I don't know if this kind of mobility constitutes that, but it certainly a fresh idea. My only complaint is that it's very similar to Jinx's passive. That might prevent implementation of this idea. Sure, smaller buff, and easier to proc, but still a similar concept.

Lol what if they made it so varus q did the same amount of damage to all targets hit. That would be op af

in my opinion i can only really see Varus being viable again if they rework him completely.. the movement speed buff is a nice idea, but i strongly believe he needs a whole new ability to reposition,,

Cindikle2/11/2015, 4:33:35 AM1 votes

I think the ult change they are doing isn't bad.

Following "Tis A Nice Day" comment. His ult could grant his next 3 auto attacks a Hurricane effect(30/50/70%AD to additional targets). Giving him some AoE damage for when his R chains out to other targets.

I feel as though if they gave him a MS buff anywhere, even if it's only 8%, he'd end up having to lose something elsewhere.

Maybe if he is another immobile character like Kog they could add old tormented soil debuff to his E.

It would cut def/mres by 5/7/10/12/15%.

junglerboy162/11/2015, 2:01:51 PM1 votes

I think to follow in the vein of what they seem to want to emphasize for him, they should slightly reduce the time it takes for his ult to travel to a new target. It is FAR too easy to just walk out of its retarget range.

Solidair32/11/2015, 2:31:57 PM1 votes

Maybe his passive could activate a brief low level movespeed boost along with his attack speed steroid.
