Released my full Patch 5.1 Tier List with patch analysis, competitive insight, and long-term predictions about the changes. Every champion is ranked statistically by solo queue performance metrics rated in favor of high elo play. This is not directed at you personally but I just can't stand tier lists. Now I know why they are created (people want to know who is strong and who is weak) but what I am annoyed with is how people go crazy over them. An example being with how some people think anyone not taking champions from the top 30 are just trying to troll. So many times have people raged at me for taking Viktor, Gangplank, or Galio. Usually they tell me to not take a such bad champions, only to shut up later when I carry the game or completely destroy the enemies "top tier" picks.

The event that really got me ticked about them was when I went as support Galio. Almost everyone on both teams questioned why I would pick such a "low tier" character and mocking me. In all I went 6/8/40, there was maybe 10 kills in all that my team was able to get without my assistance, yet they all still insisted that Galio was trash just because he was listed as a weak character on tier lists.

It just seems like people get so caught up in tier lists that they become fanatical about them, and stick to them even if they are proven to not always be accurate in describing how strong champions are. Why do people get so obsessed with tier lists, that they base so many of their opinions about the game on them.

There's a difference between this mans tier list and an opinionated tier list. This guy's is entirely based off of statistics with no personal bias.

But the problem is that these statistics are meaningless without a context around or if they don't take context into consideration, even the most accurate stats made like these one, which are among the most accurate that I have seen about these kind of things A champ like Kog'Maw who has been considered one of the strongest picks at marksmen role in the last season and has basically gone untouched(he received just slight nerfs, but less harsh than the ones that hit the other former main ADC picks and as result he was still widely used by pros and he is still a very effective champ) has dropped among the lowest tier champs only because his popularity has gone down when the popularity of other champs have gone up (example Graves), and because his KDA is slightly worse than average? Azir being just slightly above lower tier because the fact he is costantlky banned is not taken into consideration at all? And then, as usual positions are skewed and so the relative scores in this system and the tiers, Galio mentioned as top laner? Liss mentioned both as top and mid when she rarely touch mid lane?

I would just go with pick rate (particularly at high elo. Janna is clearly more popular than Leona at high elo and even starts coming into Thresh level pick rate) rather than ban rate. Kassadin was highly banned when he got nerfed in August even when there were 5+ assassins more worthy of nerfs (Akali, Fizz, Katarina, Kha'zix, and Talon) and not even banned as much.
