Declaring a Champion (Can't be Banned)

VermilionRose··8 votes·1,250 views

I was recently queening for a normal match and was hovering Nidalee, declaring I wanted to play her in the jungle this game. A very inconsiderate support decided it was actually his decision on which champion I was going to play and used his ban to ban away my Nidalee, telling me to instead play Vi. Not only do I not play Vi, I don't enjoy playing her. I timed out the ban choice and took my 6 minute penalty instead.

A system should be implemented where if an allied player is hovering a champion, no other player can choose to ban the champion for simple spite.

No. I don't care whether or not 5th pick on our team wants to play Zac, I'm banning him because I don't want to risk the enemy team getting him.

Then first or second pick could secure instead of banning it out.

Then first or second pick could secure instead of banning it out.

That works great if everyone's communicative, but that's usually not the case.

Assuming that the enemy team doesn't have first pick.

And that everyone is willing to communicate and organize a trade.

And that first/second-pick has the champion in question.

And that last-pick owned the champion(s) first-pick wanted.

And if the securing is not possible you just take the chance. You don't troll a teammate on a slim chance of things going badly.

You necro'd a year-old thread for this?

Didn't realize it was necro, it showed up among the threads with recent posts. You're right though.

Then you reasonably talk it out with the player, or see if other members on the team can secure it. Either way, it's not being a team player and showing unsportsmanlike conduct. Furthermore you've just upset a member of your team you will be working with for the next 20-60 minutes. I'd rather cooperate personally.

While in your case it wasprobally trolling what about when 5th pick wants a specific champ thats broken and cant trade because his owned champ pool is small. Ill pass.

Unclear on what you're even trying to convey in the first half of that sentence. In my case? There is no case in reference to me. I was explaining the idea that many teammates that get intentionally banned out feel negative toward that person. It starts a game off on the wrong foot. Remember, games are about fun first and foremost.

meant to reply to the op not you sorry. And getting your pick intent banned out is something that happens sometimes its trolling sometimes it learn to not play fotm champs that you know are high ban priority. Its one of my greatest fears for yorick next patch.

First, thank you for explaining the posting error. Appreciated.

I think the point that posts like the one the OP is making is this: It's a betrayal of trust. League for better or for worse is a team game. Whether you queue up with others or go it alone, you are investing an allotted amount of time in four other people. To start off that time by feeling like one of your own is out to get you starts a potentially negative cycle.

I get what your saying i really do. But i think a major problem is not everyone has every champ. Which makes league a weird situation. If everyone had every champ trades would be easier. And still i rather ban certain champs than let me 5th pick player get the op champ because chances are they wont get it and the other team will.

20 seconds to load in. for some players that's 10. 30 seconds to pick a ban. rough 30 seconds (to be safe) to convince the person that it's ok for you to ban their champion. I don't see that working.

WITH THAT SAID banning a champion that a teammate is planning to play is a dick move.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T THINK OF THIS.

why can't we just change how bans work? why can't we just make the bans only remove the ability for the enemy team to play that champion? think about it. one tricks can ban their own champion if they are truly confident that they can handle any matchup. worst case scenario, it's the same as the no ban option. your team can't ban your champion just to mess with you and then report you for responding. your enemy team doesn't know what you're going to play anyway so they're not gonna mess with you, and a system like this would actually give meaning to doublebans. instead of having an accidental "no ban" (effect), you'd get the same effect as a current ban gives.

Being trolled is not a justification to troll yourself.

That's a shit reason. You are trolling a teammate who 100% wants it because of a minuscule chance that sy on the other team who picks before that player does wants it.

Everyone is so focused on priority bans and trades that everyone is forgetting something. If you can't ban a declared champ, then you can't prevent that autofilled support from going AP Zed, or other equally troll moves.

Timorous Timber1 votes

you can't prevent a troll from trolling except by banning them. the player. ban zed? they will go AD ziggs or something like that.

Yeah, banning the troll pick is fine in principle, but in my experience the player will just go for another troll pick. For as long as my memory serves I've had a single case when banning a troll pick turned into that player going for a valid pick instead.

And what should you do if someone wants to firsttime a new champ an your team?

In a normal just play, in a ranked either dodge or play and report.

And what do you propose doing when a champion is pick/ban on a patch, your "support" hovers that champion and declares that they'll only let the team ban that Champion when someone agrees to trade them roles?

You'd let the entire team be held hostage because every once in a while someone bans a pick of yours. It's not worth that trade off.
