Malzahar's Void Shift

Due to the recency of these changes it's entirely possible I'm missing something, but to me it seems as though Malzahar's new passive (Void Shift) confers way too much safety on a character capable of deleting a target. In lane Void Shift seems to be working as intended, conferring extra safety and the ability to bully more readily while it's up. During roaming phases though Void Shift's strength grows immeasurably and I'm not entirely sure what the counter-play, in a team environment, is intended to be.

Malz has the freedom to walk up and Nether Grasp incredibly safely. Assume a poke pattern with each team looking for an opportunity to engage favorably, Malzahar forces a choice on opponents of either leaving anyone hit by Nether Grasp to die or hard engaging a dis-favorable fight. Hard CC doesn't stop the Nether Grasp until his Void Shift is broken, but in a poke pattern it's really hard to break his Void Shift. A large number of damaging abilities are now skill shots, which can be avoided, or require close enough proximity that it presents Malzahar's team the opportunity to force a fight. There's also the fact that by and large more reliable abilities fall on carries who under no circumstances should be walking into range of Malzahar just to pop his shield.

As I said, I don't have a complete view and I could be missing something, but is it just me or does Malz seem to be far too significant a force in deciding when fights occur?

P.S. If folks do agree, as I dislike bringing up issues without solutions, how about the concept of hard CC interrupting Nether Grasp if Void Shift is up. Not applying the CC or taking full damage from CC, but rather just acting as an interrupt to his ultimate.

He can't delete people anymore.

You can't delete people as easily before since they nerfed his Q/E damages.

I agree that it's harder to delete people as Malz now, but it really isn't overly relevant. The problem I've been noticing with him is that he simply brings too much presence to determining a team fight. If Malz ults someone the opposing team either lets them die or fully commits. This is due to Void Shift preventing easy access to cancelling his ult.
