It isn't always the Junglers fault

As anyone who reads my posts knows, I'm a jungler by trade and enjoy my work of making enemies wish they weren't left alone with Warwick, making opponents flee in terror from Nocturne, and in general being the person who usually ends up carrying the team. That being said, I've had a lot of games where I have been about as useless as a minion, and rightly deserve to be blamed for stuff.

However, it isn't the junglers job to make sure your lane doesn't lose a tower or make sure you don't get ganked. As a Jungler, my main job is to farm and get experience for team fights, ganking is an optional thing for a jungler to do. You may be the most hated jungler in the world if you don't gank, but it doesn't make you a bad one.

Another thing people tend to blame junglers for is not ganking the opponent that is dominating them and that they have fed. Simply put, I am not going to let that dude get a double kill because I'm a level 7 and he's a level 10, and the person who is ordering me to do this is only a level 5. This is the same person who will then go and blame you for losing the game, and more often than not claims to be a challenger smurf when in reality its questionable if he's even a bronze five smurf.

Lastly, people tend to blame the jungler for not keeping the enemy jungler from camping their lane. To this I say, why would the jungler even bother trying to stop that. The other jungler is wasting time he could spend getting farm, so your jungler should gladly accept the extra farm that he can steal from the opponent's jungle while he's busy camping your lane.

So hopefully you'll read this and go on to understand that it isn't always the junglers fault, that sometimes you have to be a man and own up to your own mistakes and say yes, this is my fault, and not the junglers. While yes, sometimes the Jungler could be brain dead or just having a bad game and a loss could be on the jungler, it isn't always on the jungler.

I'd also like to know what some of your stories are of you getting blamed as the jungler for pretty much everything that went wrong in a game, even if you were the best person on the team.

Uh. Yes. Yes it is. If you're doing nothing but farming and you are on the camp next to the tower, it is your job to come save it. That's called "caring about winning".

Yes, yes it does. It's your job as the jungler to exert pressure on the map.

You see, not only is their jungler getting gold from killing your laner(s), but he's also denying your laner(s) gold from farm, so your team actually loses twice. Doing nothing to make up for it makes you a bad jungler. You're putting your team behind by doing nothing.

Not really. The simple fact that your tower is falling already shows that your lane is too far behind, and you cannot keep your tower standing on your own. Unless you expect a jungler to abandon their jungle and the other lanes just to make sure your tower stays up it is not their job to make sure you don't lose your tower.

If they are in the are when you back, and your opponent pushes hard, then they should definitely go up and scare them off, but if you're losing your tower because you can no longer fight your opponent it's not your jungler's problem.

That's an incredible oversimplification of the junglers job. Junglers have to assist with the lanes, secure and pressure objectives, counter the enemy jungler when able, and manage all of this while farming the jungle so they don't fall behind. Different junglers are capable of different things, and abandoning a lane or two is common and should be understood as necessary in many situations.

Should the jungler forgo ganking all together? No, but they shouldn't gank a lane simply because the laner requested it either. It's the junglers right to decide who gets a gank and who doesn't, and if it's a good jungler in question they will be looking at the situation objectively.

How is easily denying the enemy team 750 gold EVER not the jungler's problem?

Yes, yes it is. It was an oversimplification in response to his grossly incorrect oversimplification. You should never spend the game not ganking. There's no excuse for it.

That's the thing, though. It's not always such an easy situation. If your top laner is feeding there's a good chance you cannot fight the enemy top laner, possibly even under tower. Part of jungling is knowing when to cut your losses with the lanes.

It is very possible that losing lanes cannot be helped, and attempting to help them will only set you behind too. Good junglers know when they should be focusing their attention elsewhere, rather than defending a tower that will be going down anyway.

So intentionally letting the tower fall early so the fed laner can roam and pressure the winning lanes is better? If you can't fight him, he's going to pressure more than you anyway.

It seems to me like this is a cop-out. "Yeah, I'm definitely going to make more than 750 gold in the next minute and snowball better than that winning lane by not getting this turret" is unrealistic almost all of the time.

If you cannot fight the enemy laner what are you really going to do if you try to stop that tower from falling?

The proper response is to quickly go to your strongest lane and help them push that tower down.

As a jungler I'm not going to risk my life and get said laner even more fed by pointlessly going after the person that is a full 3 levels ahead of me.

Yeah, pretty much. By trying to help that tower, I'm just going to get killed, have to deal with a respawn timer, and the tower is going to end up falling anyways. Despite what you may think, the Jungler is not a miracle worker. Trust me, I've been burned trying to save a turret before, its my responsibility to apply vision in the jungle, and counter jungle. It's not my primary job to help you keep from sucking.

Its not the Junglers problem when going in there would mean we still lose the tower and the jungler gets killed. Its not my fault that you can't hold a lane and that I'm not willing to die for no good reason whatsoever.

The jungler doesn't have to gank in order to be actually good. While yes, it is important for a jungler to gank the junglers primary job is to farm and to apply vision on the map, along with counter jungling. Just because your jungler isn't ganking does not mean he's not doing his job, he could be playing the game in a different style than what you think is right. I myself tend to play extremely aggressively and gank often, but not everyone does that, some people may prefer countering the enemy jungler and focus on getting ready for late game team fights.

And by the time you get there the good jungler has already won the game for his team.

The primary goal of the jungler is not to farm and apply vision.

Do you even realize what you are saying here? My job as a jungler is to gain XP through farming. In order to do ganks well I have to be of a fair level, so yes, I'm going to farm, so I can be of a bigger help to my team. Also, you want someone to stop camping your lane? Well if the jungler is setting down wards and keeping the common jungle paths lit up for your team, you can know in advance when a gank is coming, and guess what? You can teleport to wards so you can use the information you gained from the jungler giving your team vision, to counter gank by teleporting to wards.

Another point also, if my job is not to farm and apply vision, why are you complaining about getting your lane camped? Because its pretty obvious that you don't understand that if I don't apply vision to the jungle, you are not going to bother setting up wards to tell you that someone is coming to gank you. So which do you want me to do?

I always love jungling and having a lane die before I even complete my first clear, but it's my fault.

People tend to think junglers are miracle workers, and don't realize that in order for me to help you to not lose towers you at least have to hold your own against your laning enemies, the jungler can't help you if the opponent is fed and 3 or five levels ahead of you.

but if you're being repetitively blamed on the majority of your games... maybe you're being a little bit selfish and you are actually doing the wrong thing.

That is very true, and I'm more than willing to say that at times I have made bonehead moves that cost my team the game. The point of this article was to say junglers are often times blamed for things that the laner has to deal with.
