How much you wanna bet that most of the community won't say thank you?

Communal salt aside, Riot is certainly making the community bipolar with all of these changes.

Fuck, I can't stop.

You know what's INCREDIBLY sad?

That posts complaining about a feature that HASN'T even come out yet are LITTERING the boards and there are almost NO thank you threads (apart from this one posted definitely not by me: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/PsyubpfN-thank-you-riot-someone-who-didnt-mind-dynamic-queue).

Riot: Here's a bunch of stuff you guys wanted-

Community: omfg wtf rito wtf is plants wut why u do dis like why come on why

Riot: But... you guys haven't even played with them ye-

Community: omg riot remove rn or i quit like why wtf wut is this so stupid

Failog4 votes

A thank you thread? Dude we thank them with our patronage. I think helping make them into a billion dollar company is thank you enough.

President Swa1n5 votes

A) Not everyone puts money into the game.

B) They were not forced to implement these changes. Them listening to the community is a voluntary action and voluntary actions should be thanked DIRECTLY.

Champion Skin1 votes

A) Not everyone puts money into the game

(Well you need those guys too... to actually give the players who pay someone to play against and with... so they aren't stuck with massive queue times...)

Failog1 votes

Irrelavant--enough people put money into the game else Riot wouldn't still exist. So as a whole WE the CUSTOMERS fund Riot. So shut the fuck up. I will thank them by keeping on playing.

President Swa1n1 votes

True, but as I said, I believe voluntary actions should be thanked.

Dextix LT2 votes

There are no thank you threads because there is nothing to thank for yet, the features that you are talking about are not out yet, as such there is nothing to thank for.

There is no need to thank for the return of SQ, because that is them fixing what they fucked up, which is an expected thing, not something to be commended.

And you dont need to play with an idea to see that it is bad, DQ proved this already.

President Swa1n1 votes

If you tell someone of something that you want and they tell you that they will give it to you, will you not thank them? I personally would, but that may just be my excessively and stereotypically Canadian kindness.

As for SQ, IF you believe DQ was bad, consider this: if a plumber were to break your plumbing BY ACCIDENT (Riot isn't evil, they thought DQ would work) and then apologize and fix it, would you not thank them? I would, but again, that night just be me.

Now if you're someone like me who honestly didn't mind DQ, they have not 'fixed' anything for you but I thank them for appealing to supporters of both kinds of queues.

Your analogy is fallacious; firstly, DQ is one incident which cannot 'prove' anything. In fact, I can use examples to disprove what you're trying to say. Some of these include the Yorick and Ryze reworks and Kled. They were all claimed to be broken before release and very clearly are not. Secondly, many did not mind DQ.

Dextix LT1 votes

Lets look at the situation. Let's say a thief steals something from a store, he gets caught. He stops stealing. Does he deserve a reward? No. He does not, because such behavior is expected.

And your plumber analogy is missing something.

Its like this: A plumber comes and breaks your plumbing, then tries to tell you that this is better and that you dont know anything, while also saying that there will be a secondary option if you wish, then waits a few months while telling you how better broken plumbing is, then also tells you that there is no secondary options, the admits he fucked up, but does nothing to fix the situation. And after a year from the start of all of this, he finally fixes it.

I would not thank a plumber like that, i would rather hit him with a hammer.

And Yorick, Ryze and Kled did not have anywhere near as much noise as DQ had. Far from it. And many did not mind DQ, because they simply did not give a fuck either way, and as such did not matter in any way (Just like people who don't vote in elections, do not matter in elections). Those who mattered minded DQ and saw it as a failed system. You think they are giving SQ backout of the goodness of their hearts? HAH! They just saw that their moneybags left.

President Swa1n1 votes

The thief analogy is completely incorrect; Riot did not steal anything from us when talking about the promised season 7 changes.

The plumber analogy di require a reiteration. There is a plumbing organization that has offered a plumbing system for five years and devices to change it. Some people enjoy this system but some people don't. Later, they decide to offer both systems to satisfy all. I would personally thank them for this.

You are comparing Yorick Ryze and Kled to the wrong feature. I was comparing the community feedback on them to the feedback on plants.

I personally know many people that sorted DQ OVER SQ. I am certain the majority of players didn't mind, though.

Dextix LT1 votes

Its not the same but the same thought applies. You do not reward someone for doing what is expected, aka, if Riot fucks up its expected that they fix their shit.

EVen when compared to plants, feedback on those 3 was not as big. People actually thought that Yorick and Kled might be underpowered rather than overpowered. And ryze, eh,he gets reworked every season, most threads were about that......

And no, its not that majority of players did not mind, its that they did not care. And those who cared were in favor of SQ, including pro players.

President Swa1n1 votes

I may not have made this clear enough: not everyone thought DQ was a mistake. Thus, Riot, for a lot of people weren't expected to fix anything. Furthermore, I would personally thank someone for fixing their mistake, but again, that may just be me.

I'm not sure which posts you read, but I experienced the same amount of complaining for those champions as plants. People hated Kled, called him OP and oppressive, people thought Ryze was too well rounded and that Yorick was better pre rework.

I'm not sure what you mean by differentiating between 'mind' and 'care'.

Also, as I said, I PERSONALLY know some people that prefer DQ OVER SQ.

Dextix LT1 votes

The thing is not out yet, too early to thank them for anything.

Knalxz6 votes

The reason why Riot won't get huge props for this is because instead of just releasing this, they told us we we're stupid for suggesting it and said it'd never happen.

Only 5 years late. Better than nothing, I guess.

I literally can't tell if you're serious or sarcastically referencing riots old stance

SlashStriker2 votes

I dunno Rito. Practice Tool might break your philosophy about the League ^^

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSm2MJZJ9_A

Milodic Mellodi1 votes

What philosophy is that? Also a practice mode for something like Street Fighter is pretty awesome, so I don't know why you'd show it.

Supreme Senpai692 votes

Their philosophy is that having a practice mode will raise the skillfloor of every champion and ELO. Basically it will make whoever plays it better such that it will become mandatory to do, and the disparity in skill between players will increase that much more. That was their fear, anyway.

Failog2 votes

Or the disparity will dissapear because everyone will be able to get good insight into their champion and builds and situations much better, in a controlled analytical way, which ranked doesn't really provide

Milodic Mellodi1 votes

I agree with DarkRaynger. The thing about League is that it's wholly reliant on experience to make its games enjoyable. No matter what skillfloor each champ has, they all have their own skillroof that doesn't change. Sandbox Training lets people get better at their Champs faster, which lets them compete better against those that have more experience. A smaller skill gap means that games that should go well are more likely to go well. And you're not really raising the skillfloor of Champs, they'll still be the same as always. Sure, their average skillfloor will increase because there will be more room to work on your builds and such, but the champs themselves are the same. It wholly depends on the player.

Supreme Senpai692 votes

Yes I agree. That's why many people pushed for this and thankfully Riot listened. I was just answering a question.

Finally a place to practice my AP MonkeyKing :D

Wolfram Oxford1 votes

I am excited for this. I think this will also make the game more competitive. One worry I have is the addition of plants. I think its too much RNG to put into a competitive game. Maybe if the game was solo or co-op vs ai only, but not in a pvp game.

Wheatloaf1 votes

There are a whole bunch of factors limiting exactly how random the plants' effects on the game will be, such as them only spawning within predetermine areas, having relatively long waits in between spawns, and seeds/saplings/buds/whatever being visible about 30 seconds prior to the full plant spawning to allow for players to plan around their existence.

Moobeat's been doing everyone a solid and has a LOT of the Red Posts floating around on plants all gathered together at the bottom of this post, and honestly Riot's been doing as good a job vouching for their own design as I ever could.

Still will never like the idea. I really like games like chess because it has a simple design that allows for complex play. If you add too much you can ruin the game, and make it less about smart strategic play, and more about knowledge because they think they need to make the game more complex to allow for further strategies. I think the main reason why they think they need to add more and more and more every season is because pro players have a way of finding out the most efficient strategies and how to play against them, and champion/item balancing is just causing a lot of big problems and has been driving off a portion of the player base every time they accidentally add or take to much of something. I am convinced this is a conversation going around in the office. "How can we add more diverse strategies and avoid making huge balance changes", the thing is though they can look at win rates and play styles to help with better balancing (making it less hazardous), and if they don't want to make any more fuck ups balance-wise they have several planned class updates which will all be big tasks to take on, so good luck to them, especially with their history.

Is it single player only? I would use it only dueling champions with my friends (Yi vs Xin with different builds, Yasuo vs Trynda and so on; the only way to do it now is to waste hours farming minions for the items)...

Milodic Mellodi1 votes

If you're saying "multiplayer" as in with strangers in the internet like normal matches, I'd have to ask what reason you'd have for thinking this way. Because that kind of multiplayer for Sandbox matches should never be with anyone except yourself or should be done locally. If it's "multiplayer" as in locally, then of course we'd do it all the time.
