Greetings Friends,

10 Days ago I posted a discussion regarding the Matchmaking and the MMR system:

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/tEkWeQUw-have-to-win-against-platinum-to-reach-bronze-3-introducing-the-next-generation-of-matchmaking

It was very well received (+48) and I got a lot of great comments. Building on that foundation I decided to create a second post detailing my climb and my observations about the elo system.

I reached Gold 4 in 75 games, starting in Iron 4...from the very bottom of the barrel. But again, there is something wrong here:

2000+ MMR games just to get from Silver 1 to Gold 4...yes that is right. Since I very much doubt that Riot will introduce good changes to the system here is a couple of advices to you guys based on my experience of 10 -12 days of climbing.

  • DO NOT for the love of God go on win streaks (unless you are some very high elo smurf)! In my last discuassion a forumer suggested winning 2 and losing 1 game on purpose. I learned that he is absolutely right. Having a win streak of 8-10 games will raise your MMR so high that you will face and play with players multiple divisions or even ranks above you.

  • OPGG is right more or less. It predicted my MMR quite accurately and informed me when I would skip divisions. However having an MMR of 1950 a few days ago I still had to do promo games to Silver 2 and then to Silver 1.

  • You might think that having a high MMR is good because you receive a lot more LP and can skip divisions. This is true to a certain point. I got 30-32 LP and lost 9-13. However if you keep winning you will hit an invisible wall where a losing streak will ensue. The point is that it is frustrating beyond belief to stare at your silver rank when you beat gold players on a daily basis. Look at my games a few days ago....with 1950-2000 MMR I was still in silver and facing opponents who were multiple seasons plat... You hit a "peak" after which you start losing...basically in order for you to play at the rank you are currently at (for example silver) you would need to go on losing streaks just to lower your MMR and that kills the game.

  • The matchmaking is objectively unfair. You cannot see it in the match history but during MMR check the last 15-20 games it was ALWAYS the enemy team which had the higher MMR. around +50-100. Just sad to look at before a match.

  • Again, having a high MMR will result in an experience where the game demands MORE than you can do. Look at my last few games I was completely burned out....not even present in the games. I can deal with it because of was a relatively short clmb period but imagine juggling your MMR through a whole season..always hard opponents even when you are low rank. It slowly chips away at your enthusiasm...so just DONT win 10 games in a row unless you want this for yourself.

  • Unranked accounts will start in Iron..Riot confirmed this "New accounts get seeded at the bottom of the ladder with a fresh opportunity to climb." (https://eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/competitive/whats-new-ranked-2019?utm_source=LeagueClient&utm_medium=OverviewTier2Pos1) Thanks for the opportunity, Riot!

I think that is all. I know this was preseason and this was an unranked account with a high K - factor but still..normal season will be similar to this becaues the matchmaking system is largely unchanged.

I arrived at Gold 4 with an MMR of 2,052 which is Platinum 2. Imagine if this was during normal season....if I keep winning sooner or later I would be facing plat 1 - Dia 4 players on regular to GET GOLD 3 or GOLD 2.

No thanks!
