How do I play squishy champs in TeamFights?

I've been playing a lot of squishy champs recently. I'm used to playing bruisers Garen Jax Darius etc Or champs that can just go in like Tryndamere So, my problem is, when I get into a team fight with a champ like XinZhao I just get piled on really quickly and die before I can get any hits off. I do build defence items like item 3742 item 3102 etc But, I still die rather quickly in team fights What am I doing wrong?

Some champions work better as secondary engage. Riven for example has plenty of aoe cc and damage, but she's liable to get burst down before she closes the gap, hence she works best as follow up after someone like Amumu/Sej/Sion has a few of the enemy team in lockdown already.

AP champions like Diana and Liss build Hourglass so they can get in first, lay down damage and cc, then activate Zhonya's until backup arrives.

For Xin in particular, you should focus on catching squishies out of position, gapclose then ult away their peel, using that small window to burst down your target. Other than that, wait for your primary engage to burn enemy cc, then dive their backline. If your team has no hard engage, then either suck it up and die for the greater good or let someone else be the sacrificial lamb.

Hard to say. Either you're frequently out of position and easy for the enemy to target, you don't respect the enemy's burst/cc, don't play your champion playstyle as intended or you overcommit by diving the enemy team in a suboptimal manner (alone for example). Either way, it's probably due to bad decision making overall and getting punished for it by the enemy team.

There's too much going on in a teamfight (or even a 1v1) to blame it on one or two things. You have to understand how to position well, how to play your champion, how to play teamfights, how to play your specific champion in teamfights, how to play your specific champion in teamfights vs a certain champion. What do you have to keep in mind, can they lock you down easily? Burst you down easily? Does janna have ult? Can they punish you if you use your gapcloser? Kite you easily? Who should I use my stun on and when? What is your purpose? Do you peel for allies, do you burst down a carry? Do you zone the enemy?

What is your purpose? Learning that comes from experience and improving naturally as a player. Keep playing and watch players who are better than you and learn from them. GL!
