I think we need more options for magic resist...
Seriously you have A LOT more options for armor than you do for MR you pretty much have banshees veil, spirits visage and sometimes guardian angel. The rest of the items nobody ever builds.

we have a lot of options for magic resist.
it's just most of them are only actually good for mages.
need an SV alternative besides Locket.

It's less that we don't have good options for magic resistance, it's more that we don't have options for magic resistance AS A TANK.
As a tank, your only options are Banshee's Veil, Spirit Visage, and Zz'rot portal, as every other item doesn't give enough magic resistance to honestly be a consideration for your build.
While it's not that big a deal against most team comps (especially heavy AD comps), it is definitely a big deal against heavy AP comps that you need to stack magic resistance against. In that sense, you have no choice because you just build every viable magic resistance item for a tank, but after your first Banshee's and SV your build starts not being so good.
is actually really good on tanks, the shield especially useful for allowing your whole team a shield to absord the initial burst of champions.
13 decent magic resist bearing items.
11 decent armor items
20 total health items, each with excellent viability... Perhaps we just need more armor and magic resist items period?
Well except for Frozen Mallet, which has an awful build path limiting it from seeing play. (Only really able to get it if you are snowballing very hard, and may not be the best item to buy with your tons of gold.)
Could modify the post if you'd like, and I don't blame you for stepping out against the item, rito did say they wanted the item to look/feel unappealing or a gold waste because they don't want it seeing play, at least until they get around to reworking it.
Up to you. I just know that there's plenty of options for magic resist (I wouldn't mind a better armor/cdr/health option but that's just wishful thinking.)
I'd actually love to see a mana regen/armor or magic resist/health item built for tanky champs, alot of times its just flat mana, but why not regen? I suppose it would be too niche, but I can dream I guess~

Make it so, Riot.

My only complaint about the armor itemization is that if you build cinderhulk, the only armor/health option is randuins. There's tons of flat armor, but only sunfire and randuins give armor and health. I suppose one option would be to go for tabi and mogs.
EDIT: I forget dead man's plate exists. That's armor and health. Also, its passive is cool
Gnar is the only champion in competetive play that uses Frozen Mallet so buffing it would make him more cancer
Maybe make it so there is a strong inital slow but it fads over time forcing the buyer to build attack speed in order for it to be op?
I haven't even seen Gnar built it. His most popular build does not include it nor does his highest win rate build. (Unless it was LCS, then something else must have been at play.)
It's LCS. It's not that the item is particularly amazing on him, it's more that it's one of the surprisingly few items that brings something both Gnar forms actually benefit from.
then it would make sense to nerf gnar.
What people seem to forget is that it basically guarantees that you can stick to a target, which can effectively increase your attack speed against something running away. Some champs have lots of reliable sticking, but many don't. I like it on nocturne late game for when I need to sit on certain targets or for getting caught up if they flash off my e. This item is a fine pickup on any champ that really needs help sticking, and doesn't want to be limited by blade or their own cooldowns.
Not saying that it's a bad item. As you mentioned, it's pretty great, especially for sticking to targets.
That said, it can be too reliable in providing sticking power since once you hit someone with it, future hits are much easier to land, and unless something changes, it is basically a perma slow on whoever you are focusing (and perma slows are not healthy at all, especially from auto attacks with no limiting factor.) The fact it can become a perma slow means it needs to have a craptacular build path (3300g with no components giving any notably boost is pretty bad, especially if you suddenly start falling behind and can't finish it fast enough.)
Honestly not surprised why it hasn't been considered for a rework or deleted completely.
Yep. Permaslows are not healthy at all. Especially on autoattacks. With no limiting factor.

aren't good MR items for tanks.
I did not specify just tanks.
I never said you did.
Okay.
I'm sorry,
?
Since when was the last time you saw an Ohmwrecker? Probably never xD
While this is simply a comprehensive list of resistance items, you also have to consider what they provide outside of their stats alone, such as passive and active components.
for example is a good Armour item but only on people who use AP. If you put it on an ADC that's a lot of gold wasted on the AP factor that could have been spent better. Even it's active can't really justify it on an AD champion.
It's easy to simply call these items "decent Armour/MR" items.
Perhaps this should have been more clear, the point is health outweighs any other tank stat,
is "okay", but not really "good" seeing that
and
tend to do this item's job far better, I do see supports grab it every once in a while, but that's it, but what would make this item worth taking?
If you're talking about Ohmwrecker, then I've honestly no idea given that it's so massively niche and even then it's active is a little meh. Sure you could argue that taking a turret out of the equation can make for some good dives but the window is just so small. I can't suggest anything for OW, but the fact of the matter is it's just not worth building about 99% of the time. Other items give the same stats and have better actives.
Going to think on this...maybe an offensive component? Like buffing your own turrets with damage/attack speed? I don't know...
Personally I'd like to see Riot do something with Ohmwrecker that actually makes it a worthwhile buy. Since they're always harping on about diversity.
O plz rito...let me buff my own towers so divers will actually pay for their over-aggression!
While that's a cool idea, it'd still have the problem that live OW has, it's WAY too niche.
Well maybe they should be buying them? :D
any frontline champion should consider making sure the team has one of these! Really great for tanks, due to the shield synergizing with any natural defensive steroids they might have! Tank supports that build FotM love it!
Did your ally forget to buy QSS? Never fear (ba dum tiss)!
Want to push a lane against a mage as a support with your adc because you lane swapped midgame with your midlaner? Watch the enemy mage have an aneurysm while your promoted minions is immune to everything but their piss poor autoattacks!
Are you AD and there's not a lot of AD threats on the other team, so you want even more burst (with some MR) alongside a cleanse for your fifth/sixth item?
Are you an assassin against a mage who's going to build sorc shoes? Yeah fuck their penetration, you get even more magic resist than they will!
AP mana mage?
AD bruiser or assassin?
For an off-tank, there are plenty of options.
For a tank, however, Locket is the only potentially viable magic resistance option, and even then it can't compete with Spirit Visage and Banshee's Veil. You can't afford to build Locket as a tank unless the enemy team is a full AP comp, and even then you build after Visage and Veil.
huh? i think youre doing it wrong.
are all very popular and very effective (except aegis cuz they nerfed it..sad story) and
should be considered more often.
is also still a thing
Aegis is still good (as is it's upgrades), it still gives a MR aura to your team (and the carry will be thankful for it.)
The versatility on magic resist items seems to be the larger problem here, especially in the context of tanks.
If someone like Zac wanted magic resist, Hexdrinker is not an option because the wasted gold on AD would be better spent on health. Mercurial Scimitar is similar except more viable when the enemy team has few but significant sources of cc like a Malzahar ult (that you expect to be cast on you, the tank, for some reason). Resourceless champs like Zac would also would be wasting a lot of their gold spent on mana regen (chalice), as well as the fact that the item is more tuned for mages and their mana costs where tanks can be effective without burning through their mana. Wits End only works well with auto-attackers that want magic resist, making it not only bad on champs like Zac but also being less effective as a tank item than something like Aegis or Spirit Visage that give health as well.
I can't even use these!
yeah but zac specifically has the least amount of issues..he builds health and ap...
is literally OP on zac for starters, then he can also build
and
and i cant see anywhere to complain except for lack of "variety" which what you are really saying, is that you want new fancy items like what we just got that have magic resist. which is an entirely different argument that what you have previously made.
Actually has pretty sick defensive stats, No idea why people don't build it, Especially when it helps siege as well.
I would actually argue that APCs have less viable armor items. I mean, the only thing you can really get is
.
Agreed. The only others are support or tank items with some AP on them.
As I tank the following MR items have been wonderfully viable picks.
would be if the voidling pathing wasn't shit.
The PBE Abyssal looks sort of good... except the stats changes mean it doesn't work particularly well on burst champs that build it now.
There are supposed to be fewer MR options. AP champions don't really get to take turrets down (since their AA do diddly) so the counter building options against them are fewer to accommodate this drawback. AP works better against champions and AD works better against structures. Tradeoffs.
