Question about teams

Hi guys, as you know by my level, I'm fairly new to the game. I have been playing for months now. I just want to ask about team and why it is important... Like all of my friends have team and no one likes me because of my KDA on lolking.net So just tell me about this team thingy so I can atleast know what the function is... THANK YOU :D
