Item suggestion for weak early games

Hello Summoners, I just wanted to bring up a weird idea that I was hoping you guys (especially experienced players of all elos) would approve or disapprove of. Lots of Tanks or AP champions have low base damage so I was thinking that long sword could be a viable early game pick which could be sold later. I thought about this mostly for tanks like Singed where I just enjoy free farming and since I'm used to high damage champions I usually miss around 2 or 3 minions every wave; therefore, I wanted to see if buying a long sword or doran's blade early game then selling it late game as you have more base damage would be a good idea.
