Coming back after long break

So my buddy from work got me to talking about LoL and it got me wanting to play again. It's been about 6 months for me and I know many changes have been made. Before Kayle and Malzahar were my two main champs but no telling how they fair now. I'm looking for mostly tank top laners and Mid laners to play. Suggestions for champs would be nice but mostly I'm curious to how different things really are right now. Have the summoners rift changes affected the game play a lot?
