Bring back Deathfire Grasp (DFG) for testing?

Honestly, while I do understand its removal way back when, I think it could have a healthy spot in the meta with some tweaks. The removal of DFG wasn't because the item was "too powerful", rather "powerful enough to enforce a meta". Such a thing, with Stormrazor and Duskblade already out, would hardly become consequential in a meta sense.

However, the specific reason for its removal was because DFG standardized the meta, it "removed diversity". I would argue the exact opposite. DFG allowed for so many things to be playable, from AP Rengar to AP Shaco, anything really worked. It allowed for a fun environment where you could basically run AP regardless. And, given that mages can build AD and get away with it (ADC Ahri really shouldn't work, but it does), I don't see a reason why vice versa wouldn't be true.

If the item ends up being too borked still, of course, remove it. However, I think it could find a healthy place after hundreds upon hundreds of changes and mini evolutions have happened to this game. Why not give good ol' DFG another test run? I'm sure it'd make a lot of players really happy.

I REALLY don't think an item that gives more damage is what people want right now.

No it wouldn't be a great idea. Just because Riot made a mistake with Duskblade doesn't mean we can freely re-implement mistakes from the past.

The reason it got removed was the exact same reason Duskblade got gutted. There was no other way to play an AP Assassin other than to buy DFG.

Of course you had stuff like DFG full AP Malphite which can be compared to Duskblade on J4. Of course it was fun (well the J4 part not so much but still), of course it opened more builds but the people it was designed for had ABSOLUTELY no other choice than to buy the damn item.

We don't need to repeat mistakes, if anything, we should have learned from the past and never created Duskblade.

Same with Stormrazor, the champions it is designed for either buy it or are straight up trolling. Of course you can buy it on stuff which it wasn't designed for and open up new builds but the people having to buy it have a single build now.

Riot keeps being against his own words -_-

  • "Removing dfg because AP assassins deal too much damage"
  • Adding item 3147 which has been an issue since its release whatever is its effect
  • and now item 3095 while item 3285 became pure shit

Let's not re-implement mistakes from the past.

They should just fix the Duskblade mistake.

Like why the hell does Duskblade need a 99% slow and the ability to 1 hit wards?

This is a case of "X has this, so we want Y"

We need DFG as a sorcery keystone not an item

Additionally, back when Morello's would both give a ton of grievous damage and fixed your mana, it was the perfect AP Assassin item. It would cover your mana problems for probably the rest of the game and would give you decent damage to back it up- Luden's now does this, with the damage part emphasized less. Overall, our first item would be much weaker in most cases, in direct comparison to old Morello's. This makes DFG as a second item decent, but not optimal. We'd still be getting more damage out of a Void Staff and it's pene, so it'd be a third item at best. It has so much to compete with here already though, from new Morello's to Rylai's, Zhonya's and Rabadons, etc.

With so much competition, I believe DFG wouldn't be a must-buy, but rather an optimal third item for heavy AP damage. Furthremore, it'd enable Ingenious Hunter builds in the Domination tree, letting you build Gunblade + DFG and stack item CDR.

If it doesn't work out, it's easy to remove. However, I really do think it's the pinch of spice AP really needs to shine like it once used to.

I think it would be pretty cool even if they made it into a lost chapter item starter item or just another Big AP item next to death cap.
