Hey guys, in my recent games I've noticed something strange. People aren't calling mid, with the rise of the new tank meta I have seen way more people calling top and a lot less people calling mid. Anyone got any ideas on why this is or do you think it's just a weird string of games?
Penguin Eclipse7 votesI have noticed this. But I would argue that the popularity of mid has been on a downward trend most of the season. A lot of mid mains that mained champions countered by assassins have given up.

Assassins got kicked out of meta already except with zed still left there because he can 1-3-1 once a while with terrible teamfighting in this meta. The game is once again revolving around junglers like it hasnt already been that way for that past 2 seasons.

Sailor Mint1 votesPeople are more likely to have picked up something else because they couldn't play mid. Even more so when you find yourself having some success there with a fraction of the responsibilities (i.e.: all but jungle).

The expectations for a mid laner, especially when you called it, are much higher than other laners. Let's face it, people's expectations for support are really really low. Maybe it has something to do with being a support main, but I consider it the least stressful role.
I personally found myself transitioning away from mid last season, after being completely unable to play it on a regular basis. A very large chunk of my S4 games were support and top lane. And right now, I don't really feel an urge to play mid lane.
TSM ChaIIenger1 votesI agree that support isn't stressful (also being a support main) but as a supporter we still have a lot of responsibilities, although it may not feel stressful cause I guess maining support gets you used to it. Examples of our responsibilities would be things like warding (WHICH EVERYONE SHOULD DO coughs) saving our idiotic AD carries and roaming to help other lanes when the jungler is behind or busy.

Voluug132 votesBecause Riot is nerfing the viability of a lot of Midlane champions because they give Zed problems. Plus with the nerfshot reworks and the mana regen nerf people that dont main Zed/Katarina find Mid boring and frustating.
Veigar got nerfshot reworked, Zilean too, next is Ryze... the next will be Lissandra or Malzahar maybe (their ults will be skillshot because COUNTERPLAY FOR ZED). Anti-mobility is being killed by Riot.

(I am not ranked yet) Usually I am really bad with champions that require little to no skill but the harder champions I have an easy time learning. ATM Nidalee is probably one of my favorite champions right now along with thresh, gnar, alistar, azir and ahri.

It shouldn't be odd if people aren't calling mid mid mid mid all the time, in fact it's kind of nice for top to be called. Though try going into team builder sometime, it's like every team is just a top and mid waiting for bot lane and the jungle. Every captain I've seen has been top or mid, and the other slot filled. o.O

Erockandroll1 votesPersonally, mid lane is my least favorite lane. Building AP make it some what hard to last his in the early game, and their more pressure when your doing so as a glass cannon.
Ahri is the only midlaner I have practiced extensively, though I could also try vlad, lulu, possibly Ziggs. Though seeing as I'm looking for flex pick champs, my next mid laner will likely be someone like Lisandra, possibly Corki.
I find it awkward that ADC like corki and Kog'maw have probably saw the most help in their AP builds as a result of Ludan's Echo.

Should've mentioned aa range, and teamfighting, which Ezreal does a little better in Zed in the sustained damage department.
You're not exactly wrong, but people tend to use adc and marksman interchangeably, whereas Zed is an attack damage assassin who can duel reasonably well, but doesn't really provide as much sustained damage like a marksman.

With the rise of tanks, assassins fell. Who are the people trying to find stronger looking champions going to go for? The same ones that knocked their old class off their perch.

AndyChrono1 votesI've definitely noticed a drop in people calling mid the past few weeks or so. My guess is that most people like to play champs that have a visible high-impact on the game. This used to be Assassins and certain pub-stomping champions. Now-a-days the only champs that still kinda fit the bill here are Zed, LeBlanc, Kat, and Ahri. Kat and LeBlanc are commonly banned though, and Zed and Ahri aren't quite as overwhelming in the current tank Meta.

since he basically eats tanks and bruisers.
However, that being said there are very few mids like Malz that are capable of deleting tanks and that's where the problems start to rise with no one wanting mid. I mean don't get me wrong I am wayyyyyy more happy with the tank meta than I was with the Assassin meta.

Voluug131 votesMost of those you mentiones arent ''easy'' to play. They are hard to play and to master and utterly unforgiving thanks to 0 moblity except Azyr. Also reliance on mana or ridiculous mancosts.
Zed is easy to play. Not Brand, Malzahar or Vel'koz.

At least you can outplay a squishy Lee Sin, but when a Sejuani charges at you with her permaslow, knockup, and long range stun while tanking 5 turret shots and walking out of it with 30% hp, that's not fun.
