mastery points should unlock stuff
Why cant mastery points give you the option to buy special skins like in smite?

Sukishoo1 votesSMITE: battleground of the gods does it too as the OP mentioned. Riot however has to make the content still obviously inorder for things like this to happen.
Summonerrr 11 votesWell that's essentially "Free" content that can't be monetized as effectively as Riot's current Hextech Crafting system can be, where people pay to remove SOME of the RNG element of getting keys/chests.
So with Tencent owning riot's monetization model, probably won't happen.
