Balance being decided by an upcoming skin.

Sona has been seeing some nerfs and talk lately, seemingly without reason. In reality, it's all because of the indisputable evidence and assumption of her new skin. That would obviously make sense, as skins often times result in an influx of play of certain champion. However, Sona's balance being decided by something that doesn't even exist yet, is simply wrong.

Say what you will, about how they look at numbers and statistics exclusively when balancing champions; but if you're to tell me that Sona, a champion who sees comparatively very little play, even has enough statistics to properly balance her, is beyond what I can accept. Sona is undoubtedly strong, however, nerfs? That's basically the same as nerfing Poppy; she's extremely strong, borderline broken, but doesn't see enough play to warrant direct changes. Why would you nerf a champion that is already in the popularity-gutter? In preparation for an influx of play, of course.

The game that we're playing right now, one without this new Sona skin, is being effected by something that has yet to be.

I'd prefer to see some real changes to her failure of a rework, that ultimately accomplished nothing. Powerchords are no more useful. Her 'active auras' have such a small and unnoticeable impact that I question why they're even there. Instead of directly nerfing her heal, remove the % scaling, that should really be exclusive to Soraka, and bump up the base/ap scaling a tiny bit.

Her rework did nothing but buff her in the most unhealthy ways. She either: A. Stalls the game to no end. or B. Shoves the game down the enemies throat so hard and fast that they have no chance to recover.

The fact that the balance of the game is being decided, poorly at that, by an upcoming $25 skin is, quite frankly, disgusting.

*to those who say "But it's not even confirmed so none of this matters!", please think for a moment and understand that a character that literally no one in the playerbase even speaks of is receiving nerfs, accompanied by the evidence of a new skin, is not a coincidence in the slightest.

I apologize if this comes off aggressive or rude, and I know that no Rioter is going to come here and respond, as that would be confirming the skin, but I hope that, after it's confirmation, I can receive some answers as to why this is a justifiable approach to game balance

Thanks. Sona

Actually they're nerfing her because she's annoying as hell to lane against and her early-game damage is absurd.

Sona has one of the highest support winrates atm. In fact I think Sona is #1 winrate for support and Janna is #2 atm (might be the other way around) obviously winrates aren't everything but as a champion who is seeing a lot of success right now even if it's not in competitive play, it's not unfair to look at her stats a little. Sona's Q + Powerchord (on the AA that has the Q aura) half hits people with no more AP built than a spellthief. She does some damage.
