@Meddler, Galio and his future rework. Galio's Identity and thematics.

Hello Meddler, and/or anyone else who reads this. I'm posting this as a disscussion about Galio, where I'm hoping me and others will be able to express our thoughts about Galio's identity i.e. who he is, what he does and why.

The point of this disscussion is not the kit or balance of Galio, as I feel that's the job of Riot. Instead, if the champion update team reads this discussion, I hope we can keep the iconic parts of Galio, even after his rework.

Feel free to express your thoughts on Galio through text, pictures, memes and/or other mediums.

Hello everyone, considering my love for this character I thought I would make a long post about what I enjoy about Galio.

I'll start with a few points I feel are Iconic of him and then my feelings about who and what Galio is.

Guardian Galio is a Rock thing that protects people. He doesn't pick a fight and he's very peacefull. His main way of protecting others is to take it all on himself.

Unique Galio has his own personality within League and he often takes the path less traveled and does the unexpected. He is weird (In a good way!) and he is filled with Contradictions, wich I feel makes him into Galio.

Mysterious or Arcane Noone knows who or what he is. (What is a Galio?) He seems to go against normal logic, in a really beautifull way.

Contradictions below this point I love the contradictions, becuase I feel they really say something about who he is. Kinda like Poppy (Being small with a large hammer, Throwing a shield, Protecting by rushing in) Below I've listed some of his wonderfull contradictions that I wish would stay.

Light as a feather He is a Gargoyle or Construct or Golem made out of what seems to be enchanted rock. Yet he packs no punch and gently glides forward as if he was light as a feather.

Unarmored Even though his main weakness is swords to the face and arrows to the knee, he doesn't wear armor. Presumably becuase it would weigh him down.

Unafraid Swords and Arrows (basic attacks) hurts him, yet (after gently gliding in) he taunts his opponents to attack him while he just stands there, unafraid, and takes it, for his friends, for his team and most importantly for demacia.

Sunbathing Gargoyles have often been writen as weak against the sun or against sunlight, some even turning to stone during the day. Meanwhile Galio takes the core of a newborn star to his face, sunbathing in the explosion. Galio often emerges from spells and explosions unhurt, in actuallity it would seem magical attacks just restore him.

Nuclear Arcane Apocalypse Galio is normally very passive and gentle, but at the end of his ultimate, he explodes like a Magical Nuke, releasing his pent up frustration from his pacifist way of life. Galio himself just feeds upon the magical energies released, emerging unscathed.

That brought a tear to my eye. That was beautiful!!!! I love you for that. I think galio needs a rework, but stick to galio... like the new ryze was blah... Stronk, but blah.... galio should have a kit similar to Vladimir, using his health to shield himself or damage his opponents. maybe a rage bar to activate his ult... maybe a passive that after taking damage from three spells or autos, he has enraged ability next? Idk Galio is one of those champions that used to be balanced, but his kit and damage cant keep up with the newer champs like kled, or like Taliyah.... he needs to be rounded out like a real tank should.... I agree, thematically, he's great. I hope they keep his tragic story about Durand, and his adoration for Poppy. I feel like those are extremely critical to his story, and gives him such a depth of character while also giving Poppy some emphasis as well.

riots already taken this one to heart and a full build up on the sion level is happening. whether we want it to or not.

when vlad/AS/swain were wide successes to begin with.

galios old kit is being thrown out and its quite sad really when it functions exceptionally well.

We pulled those changes because they weren't hitting the mark, in terms of solving issues on Galio or making him more satisfying to play. For one thing there's not really any available power budget for an alternative passive. Galio's not popular at present, but he's pretty effective in the average game, so we don't have space to add power to him without pulling it elsewhere.

I mean meddler thought he was fine 8 months ago, and in fact his win rate has gone up since then... and so has his popularity (albeit slightly) so what are his problems again?

Currently Galio has a lot of problems. His theme, gameplay, and art hasn’t aged very well at all. This gives us a pretty wide canvas to paint on and Galio will likely be our largest transformation to date. So what are our goals with Galio? With Galio we want to see if we can really deliver on a mid lane focused tank/mage , as we think that opens up a lot of interesting strategies (not that he has to be played exclusively mid of course). We also think that him being some sort of statue/construct is super important as well as his strong ties to Demacia.
