It's time to make Zhonya's active a Summoner Spell (Posted on GD first, but is appropriate here too)

And give it something else. Maybe something like activated burst reduction that scales with AP, but I'll detail that further down.

I'm sure someone could dig up a statement somewhere by Riot where they say "Nothing should be optimal in every situation." in reference to items, champions, summoner spells, masteries, runes, or whatever.

But you know what? Zhonya's is optimal in literally every situation for AP characters. Against heavy AP burst? Zhonya's. Against an AD mid? Zhonya's. Need a lot of AP? Zhonya's. Wanna win that team fight? Well if you don't have Zhonya's they're gonna focus you and you'll die. Does your character have strong passive damage around them as long as they survive? Zhonya's Running out of mana as Swain or Karthus? Zhonya's makes your ult/E cost nothing for the 2.5 seconds it lasts. Vi ult? Zhonya's Zed ult? Zhonya's

It gives armor and AP. And you'd think, sure it's great against AD characters. And yeah, of course it is. Unfortunately it's good no matter what the enemy team comp is. No matter what.

Because it gives 120 AP and has that active, it's the single most powerful item an AP character can build and in most cases there's very little reason to not rush it so you can "outplay" the enemy. There are of course reasons, like going OOM on some characters where you just need the Chalice or you can't farm, but again, very few reasons to not just rush the thing.

So you know what? Here's what I'll propose.

New Summoner Spell: Stasis Cooldown: 240s Renders your champion invulnerable and untargetable for the next 2.5 seconds.

Zhonya's Hourglass New Active: Borrowed Time For 5 seconds all incoming physical damage is reduced by 20% (+1%/25 AP) At the end of the 5 seconds, 50% of the damage blocked by Borrowed Time will affect the player but will not bring them below 1 HP.

Okay. So what we have now is a new summoner spell that is wildly effective on most people but still often situational compared to Heal or Teleport if you want or need those 2 spells for their other utility. We have a way to deal with the constant Zed spam as ANY character in a clutch situation, but it still has a fairly long CD so it doesn't hurt him too much. Fiddlesticks, Morgana, Swain, Karthus, and others no longer have to rush it to make their playstyle viable.

And at the same time, we take Zhonya's Hourglass from a must-have in all situations to an item you build when getting wrecked by AD, like it should be anyway. We also lower its effectiveness on characters other than mages by giving it a stipulation that it scales with AP.

This is also a slight nerf to Fizz to remove some of his most frustrating aspects with ZH.

EVERYBODY WINS ON THIS ONE. Rito pls.

problem would be that stasis would be used by everyone pretty much, and the fact of the matter is that even with the problem of flash being so much more useful than anything else Riot does want to try and have more variety for the summoner spells.

Flash is used by pretty much everyone

I don't really think tanks, ad's and junglers (supports, too) would really like this spell too much. AD's don't have cd's they can wait for while in stasis and are horribly mispositioned after the effect ends. Tanks, on the other hand, are ment to soak damage, not avoid it with untargetability. Junglers need smite for objectives. Supports could maybe like the spell but then again, they have to make the decision either being selfish with stasis or helping their team that their role is.

Midlaners, however, who want to wait for cd's and avoid bursts and cc in lane could decide to pick it up. Also, some bruisers, suchs as Wukong, could get some variability in their summoners.

Lets imagine a game of ranked vs amumu and katarina or fiddle or kennen or morgana maybe even Riven or jinx anyone who can do crazy ammounts of damage to an entire team at once. The enemy team will just choose the statis summoner spell and avoid the ultimate for the team fight and then continue it as if that spell was never used.

Remember, this would mean that Amumu has no smite, Katarina has no ignite, Fiddle has no smite, Kennen has no tp or whatever he uses. Of course the spell is powerful, but it has it's tradeoffs. Junglers without smite can't contest objectives, toplaners with no teleport don't give global pressure and burst mages/casters have to give up some of their burst to have this spell.

If the enemy team decides to just statis everything thrown at them, the other team can just gladly back off knowing they have burned their 3 min cooldowns (I think that'd be suitable cd if this were to happen) which is higher than most of the ultimate ability cooldowns.

If it was to turn out too good, it can be nerfed in duration, it can be given a cast time, it could slow you afterwards etc. On the whole, I don't think the spell is that good when it means you have to give up a powerful spell that can be used also to help your team, not only on yourself.

I don´t think that would be a good idea, having it available at lvl 1 would make some Champs just incredible hard to deal with (all hail lvl 6 support-morg), while other Champs would run into inviability. Having it on a 3k+gold-slot either forces you to rush it if you want the active midgame (so you trade basically mana and cdr for the active, quite a heavy choice) or you wait till lategame for the active to appear on the battlefield + keep in mind that adcs would have free access to the active then, which probably is not what you want to see.

No. Just no. Zhonya's active needs to be removed from the game, not spread around to everyone.

I know flash is used by pretty much everyone, do you want there to be only two / three summoner spells used in the game

There's nothing wrong with the Hourglass. It has already been nerfed from Zhonya's Ring.

Stop QQ already.

Disagree, this would be way too strong to have as a summoner spell. It would block out most other spells for a huge portion of champions. Not to mention how unhealthy this would be for champions who use the stasis extremely well. (Kennan, morg, fiddle) tower dives would be absolutely out of control. Anyone that has any dive potential before would be unstobable, you could pick entire comps around it and murder people early game think zac, j4, aatrox. Elise.
