Let's talk about warding.

So I recently got into a debate with someone on here about Zed. They were arguing that Zed was OP and that even though he has counters to his burst and his laning you can't stop him from roaming and having a large map presence. I commented and explained all the different wards that you can buy to stop that and told him that if you and your team are not going to ward then you deserve to lose. Wards win games. After hearing about this I thought wow how many other people are there that don't understand the power of warding. Haha I'm only in silver 5 and I've only been playing about a year and a half but if there was one thing that I stuck into my brain as fast as I could it would be one word. WARD. I feel like the game is 50% about how good you are and 50% how well and how much you ward. Wards are the most OP item in the game no joke. Wards are the bomb dude. Personally I love placing wards I think it's fun to go around and place wards in places then see the enemy walk past them and I ping to my team "Hey the 6/0 rengar just took red he's probably going top or mid next looking for a gank (assuming I was blue side). Look at that I just stopped rengar from possibly getting a kill. Before anyone says anything no stop it's not the supports job to ward. One sightstone and a few warding totems is not enough. Everyone should be warding all the time. Here try this. Get 4 friends go into a game everyone pick a champ normal stuff blah blah blah. When the game satrts make a rule that everyone must place at least 15 wards this game. It's set so high because the trinket counts. You can see how many wards you have placed in the match history feature. Be prepared for a free win or at least a really close game because those wards are gonna make it so much easier to play.

I don't know why you got downvoted for this. +1. Though please, paragraphs lol.

Anyway, you're right. Ward, a lot. Wards win games. I can't count how many times I've seen teammates complaining because they keep getting ganked, but they won't ward. (Also S5 here). I can't count how many times I've told my team to upgrade their trinkets, and they don't. Or if they do, they get item 3362. Pinks are great, yeah, but I'd prefer you get item 3361 or even item 3363. (With upgraded blue trinket you can have 5 wards on the map, alone.)

And yeah, it's not solely the support's job to ward. Though I absolutely hate supports who don't get Sightstone, or upgrade their yellow trinkets.

On a few occassions, I've told my team "If I don't buy wards each back, report me."

I buy sightstone every game. unless I'm in a solo lane, but that happens rarely enough. As a jungle main, I play support as my secondary role, I would really appreciate it if everyone had at least two wards out at a time, and if one of those is a pink then you don't have to replace it as often :).

Side note, two sightstones is still only six wards, and not every jungler buys sightstone. Three wards doesn't even cover bot lane (river bush, tri-bush, 2x lane brush, enemy's tri-bush, drag). Top lane is the same thing, with an extra lane bush, but no baron during laning phase, although you can probably get away with just having river warded at some points during the game up top.

Some notes on ward placement from a jungler: I tend to start bot so I can get a leash from my ADC. I really appreciate when my top laner wards my buff between 1:00 and 1:15. This warns me of an invade and gives me the chance to steal the appropriate buff from the enemy. During game, I will try to ward dragon and the pixel bushes in the river, and have a defensive pink ward early. I expect mid to be watching those wards and to ward their lane bush. ADC, I expect you to use your trinket if you support doesn't have sightstone or is out of charges. I understand that warding can take you out of position, but I would rather have you caught out in a 2v2 than a 3v2 or 4v2 if the enemy jungler and/or mid shows up. Support, I don't expect you to worry about dragon. I expect you to worry about river bush, tri-bush, and lane bushes.

For aggressive wards/warding after laning phase ends: It can be really annoying to have the enemy ward your raptor camp, so do this to your enemy. This is because the raptor smite buff expires shortly after the first ward sees you. By the time I'm attempting to establish vision in the enemy jungle, I usually have a item 2049 and item 3341. Vision denial can be just as important as having vision. I tend to have a pink on dragon because, even though it is usually found pretty quickly, it is really helpful in getting wards out of the pit. Same thing with baron, but unless you are working with a 5's team OR aced them cleanly at 25 minutes, DO NOT GO FOR BARON(sorry, side note not related directly to warding).

Any other things that anyone else noticed or that higher elo people want to correct me on would be appreciated. I admit that I don't know everything, but these are just things I've noticed as far as my preferences go.

I buy wards as the adc.

I never get surprised if the enemy jungler ganks because I'm already positioned appropriately, no matter where my support is currently roaming. I can push to second tower safely and never get collapsed on without a warning a mile away.

I wonder if there's a connection.

Wards give you additional attack speed when youre near them, but theyre used more as something to reveal hiding enemies
