Fixing the Support Role

Clicking "Fill" gets you the support position the vast majority of games. As long as this is true, something should be done.

What can Riot do to make support so viable and so desired that "Fill" no longer automatically means "support"?

How about you make the lowest gold member of the team automatically tax the rest of the players? It should be balanced so that on average, the support role finishes the game with the least gold no more than 50% of the games. That would mean a pretty large tax, somewhere around 10 gold per minute per player, with a fixed portion and a scaling portion. Why not just start at 2 gold and then work up until the desired outcome is reached?

Nah man, im a support main and i don't really care about gold, as long as i help my team win the game its fine, and thats how i believe good supports should feel. If you don't want the support role just pick mid and top cause u get atleast 1 of em

A good Support has NO ISSUE with Gold.

Real, actual, good Supports don't have problems helping their Team Win, making Plays, even adding Damage and getting Gold for Items.

The only people that have issue with Support being Viable, Fun or Important are those that suck at being a Support.

Well of course support mains are going to throw in their two cents. but the fact remains that something like only 5% of the playerbase wants to support, and that needs to change. How about an ap/hp/cdr buff that follows the same mechanic? The champion that has the least gold and spends the most time near another allied champion gets the buffs?

...or maybe a support item you can only buy if you get a certain summoner spell ... you know, instead of seeing Annie/Brand bot every-fucking-day with the ghost trinket to slow you down.

Currently there are only 3 reasons I play support

  1. To get into a game faster.
  2. To fit into what I think is a very good premade.
  3. To try and break one of those awful 7+ game streaks where every lane feeds. (This actually works more often than not.)
