Sona: How to play with her properly?

Support main here. I already figured out Morgana's behavior and things I need to do as her Summoner.

But... Sona. She is a pain to figure out. I play with her a full support; ended up with a defeat. I play with her as semi-support; still ends up with a defeat. Enemy team always focuses on her. Going for a support-play maker, like positioning and her ult, no one bothers to follow-up.

So how to play with Sona?

With Sonas ult you don't want to be the initiator, you have played too much Morganna lol so it is messing you up. You want to save it for that one moment in the battle when you can change the tide of the match. Basically use it after they jump in or when they are chasing your teammate and you have another teammate near who can help finish them off. Because of the long cooldown your ult can be life or death. It is your Trump Card. As for Sona the main thing to know is actually her passive. Power cord, after 3 spells are used, your next auto attack will do insane damage, as well as having other useful effects. For example if the enemy adc is attacking your adc then you want to use w and then your powercord, this will cause reduced damage basically nerfing the enemy adc for a short time. If you use E before Powercord it gives the enemy a slow, perfect for catching enemys and helping your alies catch them, and use your q and powercord to do lots and lots of damage. Especially if you are using the thunderlords mastery. Some use the healing mastery but honestly Thunderlords is usually more helpful early game as if you spam heal, you will be out of mana really fast. In teamfights you want to be kind of in the middle and back. That way your songs can boost your allies and they can try and protect you if you get jumped. If you are in the middle of your team and an assisn jumps you, Exast him immediately and E away and then turn around and Q and auto him. Unless the Assasin is extremely fed this will get rid of him because your team should have all turned around to help you. Basically as Sona you are squishy, but you want to be in their face, so it can be difficult to find the balance at first, but I'm sure you can figure it out.

The thing about Sona is you have to play like you would as a mid laner. Poke the enemy carry and heal when need-be. You don't need to be super aggro, just go up every time they go up to farm. It quickly adds up if you just stay patient and keep your carry alive. In a weird way, you want to draw the focus of the enemy team, so building slight tAnkP (tank with AP, a Locket/Frozen heart depending on enemy team with a dcap or mejai's so you can bring massive heals) would be in your favor.

Her damage is nice, but it's burst, so chances are you'll want to burst the carry or squishy support, at the very least chunking them with a E-W-Q-aa combo. I haven't had much luck with Powerchord W or E except in the rare situations where my team caught a straggler. However, Powerchord W does help your team deal with fed carries if you can manage to get it off on them.

As for ults, I don't really use it as an engage tool and more of a re-engage. If I start a fight with it, I have nothing left due to CDs and Q only working on 2 targets and W on one ally. The way I go about it with my ult is the same way I use Charm with Ahri, I will try to never lead with it because it's such a useful ability that is the biggest part of her kit outside of the ult. I miss it, I'm either dying or getting out of there/trying to kite because it's a 6-8s cooldown which is longer than one might think.

At least, that's how I play her and I'm probably the only one that rushes an Ardent censer on her now given it was buffed a bit ago and I just cannot ignore those nice stats.

Don't spam heals, it costs too much mana. Your ADC doesn't need to be topped off all the time. Learning champion ranges is important. You need to learn how safe it is to get up and Q + AA and slip out without getting into too much danger. E power Chord is the least useful. If you can get ahead early with your ADC, but a Lich Bane.
