Eh, the mods are becoming increasingly authoritarians, but are struggling against the reality of the internet and people being able to say what they want, and no amount of blacklisting will stop them.
Which is why they created their own little gameplay+ safe space, where they instead created a whitelist.
I don't blame them completely though, the expectations of a moderator have expanded so much over the years. It use to be that mods had the authority to primarily do things like remove suspect links and such.
Now they're expected to police the behavior of the users and hold them to some arbitrary stricter standard than what is legally allowed. Seriously, there's zero excuse for the moderators to be wasting their time on most of the list of things on their "universal rules" page.
