Ideas for Taric (Repost with Clearer Formatting)

Hey Guys, Honestly, I don't think Taric is a bad champion. I enjoy him. But I did have some ideas for Taric's kit. What do you guys think? (Note: Treat all of the numbers as just placeholders. They may be too strong or too weak)

Passive: Gemcraft After casting an ability, Taric's next basic attack deals 7 (+4 x Champ. Level) (+40% of Taric's BONUS armor) additional magic damage and reduces his cooldowns by 2 seconds against champions while reducing 1 second against all other enemies.

->Justification: If you read on, you will notice that Taric's E and R are no longer damaging abilities. Taric does need some damage though so I think it would be interesting if Taric's damage relied primarily on his passive (his w also being a good source of damage). In order for the passive not to be too punishing in the early game, it deals damage based on bonus armor rather than total armor. Get those armor runes in check! In order to compensate, the basic attacks only reduce cooldowns by 1 second against most targets.

Q: Imbue (My version of Taric's kit revolves around Imbue) Taric brings forth earthen energy to heal a target ally and himself for 60/100/140/180/220 (+30% Ability Power) (5% of Taric's bonus health). For the next 3 seconds, 30/35/40/45/50% of the physical damage dealt against the ally is redirected towards Taric. If he targets himself, the heal increases by 50%. Mana Cost: 50/75/100/125/150 (Slightly different from the original) Range: 750 (Same as original) Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 seconds (Pretty close)

->Justification: I think Taric should stay the armor dependent support of this game. And what better way to do that then have Taric literally tank the physical damage for someone else. Thematically, I believe this works: you are already healing both you and the ally which suggests some kind of bond/link between the two. Is it too strong? It only lasts for 3 seconds which can give physical damage dealers enough time to work around. Remember that it's not just damage reduction: Taric is taking the damage for someone else. I have left the heal as it is at the moment. Perhaps it can be nerfed to accommodate my change.

W: Gem Armor (Too basic? Open to suggestions) Passive - Gems grant Taric 18/26/34/42/50 bonus armor and returns 20% of the physical damage dealt to Taric (before armor calculation) back to his enemies in the form of Magic Damage. Active - Taric shatters his armor, dealing 40/80/120/160/200 (+20% Armor) magic damage to nearby enemies and reducing their Armor by 5/10/15/20/25 (+5% Armor) for 4 seconds. While on cooldown, Taric no longer returns magic damage upon taking physical damage. Mana Cost: 50 (Same as original) Range: 400 (Same as original according to website though I think it's actually 200 range) Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 seconds (Not sure how close this is to the original)

->Justification: Taric needs a lot more armor now: he is going to be tanking the damage of 1.5 champions now (and possibly even more). However, he no longer has an armor aura. His physical damage reduction for allies is going to have to come from his Imbue now. However, since he will be taking more damage, I have added a form of punishment for those who choose to attack allies with Imbue. The active remains almost entirely the same except that Taric is going to keep his armor. He is going to really need it. However, I do like the idea of Taric's W having some risk so I think the trade-off to using the active should be to remove the damage return portion of Taric's passive.

E: Dazzle Taric emits a stunning light from his shield stunning enemies in a cone for 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5 seconds. If an enemy is hit at point blank range (within 100 range), the stun duration is increased to 1.5/1.75/2/2.25/2.5 seconds. Mana Cost: 75 Mana (Same as Original) Range: 550 (MUCH less than the original: less than Annie's W) Cooldown: 20/18.5/17/15.5/13 seconds (Probably longer)

->Justification: I think Dazzle's sole purpose should be utility. I have removed damage from this ability entirely but I have allowed it to hit more enemies and it's much faster. Thematically, I think the moment Dazzle is used, it should actually "dazzle" enemies. Right now, it's kind of meh (Remember Sion's old Q?). I also think that the stun should be noticeably more powerful when enemies are next to Taric's shield as though his enemies just became super-stunned from the light (for lack of a better word but you get the general idea). With these numbers, the duration of a point blank stun could not be matched. Of course, it's hard to pull off and it may encourage Taric players to flash Dazzle. It does have significantly less range than the current Dazzle which - along with the lack of damage - compensate for the ability's potential utility. Is this a min-Cass ult? Sorta but Liss's W is kind of like a mini Amumu Ult so the precedent has been set(:

R: True Brilliance (I do like the ability name "Radiance" I just don't know if it fits with my version of the ability. I am open to suggestions) Taric brilliantly leaps to an area. Upon landing, Taric cleanses all allies in the area from disables, applies the current level of Imbue on them, and grants them 30/40/50 attack damage for 10 seconds. During that time, Taric is immune to all armor reduction and penetration. Mana Cost: 150/175/200 (Way more mana) Range: 750 (Same as his Q) AOE: 400 (Same as his W) Cooldown: 100/80/60 seconds (Starts with more. Ends with less)

->Justification: Completely different, I know. Why the AOE cleanse? I thought it could be a unique move that no champion has in the game (isn't that what an ult should be?). If this ult were in game, it would add a new layer to what supports could do. Taric would the true teamfight savior (do we even have a champion who can do that? Maybe a handful). Remember, if Taric himself is disabled, he can't preform the leap so Taric players would need to be careful of getting disabled. The leap is also not instantaneous (unlike all other form of cleanses) so timing is key. Why the leap? This will allow Taric to setup for his Dazzle by putting him in closer proximity to the enemies. Having this leap also sets up for his W active which can help get rid of the foes. Remember that Taric's damage comes from basic attacks so having a leap will allow him to get in range of auto attacks. It will also allow him to cleanse from a distance rather than in close range. Why apply Imbue to everyone? So that Taric can protect multiple allies from physical harm (drops the mic). Why grant attack damage to allies? This is to keep the spirit of the old ultimate alive. I like the old ultimate I just don't think it provides Taric with meaningful buffs (but being immune to armor pen and reduction is REALLY meaningful on Taric). So instead, the ultimate is now more focused on giving all allies an equal buff so that they can kick some butt. But don't worry. Taric still gets the attack damage. Why no AP? Come on this ult is already strong as it is. Besides, ADCs only primarily need attack damage and Taric's goal is to serve the ADC. No need for granting AP (even though that can be really strong)

Is there any counterplay to Taric? Absolutely. 1) Magic Damage. 2) Magic Damage. 3) Kite the range on Dazzle. DO NOT GET TOO CLOSE or you will literally be stunned for days. 4) Wait for Imbue to wear off before going in. Early on, the CD is pretty long and once it's on cooldown, the ADC is more vulnerable than ever 5) Don't let Taric auto attack you or else, you will recieve tons of damage. Taric's will probably opt for a gauntlet so watch out. 6) Likewise, don't spend too much time auto-attacking Taric. It's not wurf 7) In team-fights, don't chain CC on the enemy team because Taric can simply clear it and you won't have anything left. Try to stagger your disables.

That's all friends. Torrence

Which other champions have targetted stuns? Did you know it costs Soraka 10% of her max health every time she presses W?

Taric may be a relic of old-style LoL, but the solution isn't to mindlessly give him steroids.

Torrence1 votes

As I said before, the numbers are just placeholders. They may very well be too strong. Liss has a powerful targeted stun and so does Annie. I did know that Soraka's heal costs health so what's your point? I am not sure how I mindlessly gave Taric steroids can you give me an example?

Brockit3 votes

I love the Imbue change suggested here the best! It is totally fitting and speaks to Taric's character. "I will share your suffering." Healing Taric and an ally and going in to splitting some damage totally works! Just need to play around with that percentage and maybe not have it scale with leveling the skill leave it a flat number and just the healing scales.

Torrence1 votes

I appreciate your kind words. What flat number do you think would work? 40%, 50%?

Brockit1 votes

It would just really need to be tested and balanced, spitting 50% would just be way to OP. It is already a heal, I would want to see maybe 20% or a third of the damage maybe.

PokladnicaZla2 votes

I really like the new Q and R.Maybe i will finnaly play him. :)

NOTE:Maybe add bonus AA range to his passive?Have you thought about any base stat changes?

Torrence1 votes

I like the idea of Taric being a melee champion. It fits with him thematically. I don't know about adding auto attack range what do you think? Do you think he needs it? I am not an expert in base stats but his armor might have to be lowered a tad.

PokladnicaZla1 votes

I dont really play Taric that much(at all).

What i found hard has tp stun someone and then walking up to him to proc my passive. Many ADCs hav escapes,CC and there is also the support.Either increase the MS or the AA by passive. His current AA range is 125.

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Range

Hope this helps you to get the bigger picture about AA range,so you can decide if it needs to be increased or not.

Torrence1 votes

Hmm. Increasing movement speed is usually a very delicate modification. He already has 340 MS (http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Movement_speed/Table). I think I would change his auto attack range from 125 to 150 which might give him a better feel. After all, he does have a pretty big hammer so it would make sense for him to have a slightly longer range than other melees. It's also possible to make Taric's attack animation faster when he uses his passive (it's pretty clunky now). Thanks for sending the page though.

No problem mate. Was my pleasure. :))

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I appreciate your insight as a Taric main. I do want to remind you that the numbers are all tentative so they can be changed to fit with his kit. Alright I will try to give a defense of some of my points (though I will have to concede some). This is a modified version of his kit with your suggestions.

Overview: I do believe you are right that I have not put enough trade-off in Taric's kit to justify the buffs. For instance, the thornmail element on my W is not necessary and admittedly too strong. However, I do think there are some elements in my version of the kit that add value to Taric both thematically and in-game.

Passive: Gemcraft After casting an ability, Taric's next basic attack deals 35% of Taric's bonus armor in additional magic damage and reduce his ability cooldowns by 2 seconds if he attacks an enemy champion. Although I do not main Taric, at the moment, the damage seems to have minimal impact in the game. It's difficult to get into auto attack range and the damage only seems to be of significance in the early game. I also think that a 2 second cooldown reduction on the passive can be too punishing. All I have to do is auto attack a minion to get my CDs back much faster. I may have overshot the damage before but I wanted to emphasize the damage element of his passive and put Taric's utility somewhere else. I have lowered the damage and I think that Taric's CDs should only be in effect against allied champions and not minions or other enemies. This will encourage Taric players to use their empowered auto attacks on champions. Do you think there should be some base damage on it?

**Q: Imbue Taric summons gems to protect an ally, healing them for 60/95/130/165/200 (+10% of Taric's Bonus Health) over 3 seconds. Taric is healed for half of that amount. During those 3 seconds, the gems redirect 30/35/40/45/50% of the physical damage dealt to the ally back to Taric. If Taric chooses to target himself, the heal is increased by 50%. ** Alright so here, I think the heal will come from gems (The gems act as the catalyst for Earthen energies to flow through the ally) which can thematically justify a linking. A Warlock would try to harm enemies and not defend his allies through their linking power (if that makes sense). Taric is using his linking power to defend his ally. I agree that there should be some compensation for the redirected damage. 1) So as you suggested, the heal is now overtime rather than instant. 2) Taric gets much less of the heal if he heals an ally. This thematically works as he has to make a noticeable sacrifice to help out his friend. 3) No more AP scaling but the bonus health scaling is higher. I think it's best to leave the AP heals to other supports. Is the trade-off enough to include the redirected damage or not?

W: Shatter (or some other fitting name) Passive - Taric reinforces his armor with gems, gaining 14/21/28/35/42 armor + 1 per champion level (working out to 60 armor at level 18). Active - Taric shatters his armor, dealing 40/80/120/160/200 (+20% Armor) magic damage to nearby enemies and reducing their Armor by 5/10/15/20/25 (+5% Armor) for 4 seconds. For the duration, gems - which can be picked up by Taric - lay on the ground where the enemies were affected by the ability (like Zac's bloblets). During these 4 seconds, Taric loses his armor passive but gains some movement speed (not sure how much). If he picks up three gems, Taric regains his armor but loses his movement speed bonus. So here, I have taken off the thornmail effect and softened the armor gains by adding a per level component. The armor is no longer aura so that Taric relies on his Imbue to protect allies from physical damage. I still like Taric having risk to this ability but I do want Taric to be able to regain his armor so he can continue tanking damage from Imbue. I also like your idea of Taric gaining movement speed after having armor shattered. So I have combined the two here. What do you think? I'll write the second part of my comment tomorrow.

Many of you point make sense and I am glad we can have a discussion about it.

Q: I do agree as a "Paladin" Taric do have a noble spirit but I really do not think that his magic should inflict him pain. When I was referencing a Warlock, it is because the general conception of dark magic is based on self destruction, self afflicted wound, or Vodoo curse type (I hope you get the me lol). The fact the heal powerful but slow allow you to be able to cast powerful heal, resulting you and your ADC high health. The counter play is big enough to not make it too frustrating. Furthermore your heal may become the weakest (unnoticeable) during late game team fight.

My biggest fear is that adding "the sharing pain" ( that soraka already do in a more direct way with her new heal) will not only make it unbalance compared to other main heal, but will also be slightly out of character.

Here is my take on a possible version of Taric:

**Passive:

Emerald Knight: After Being at the same position for 2.5 sec, Taric gains a enchanted shield of 10% of his max life, 10/15/20 % movement speed for 1.5 sec and ignore minions collision pushing them aside his path. The shield expired after losing the buff speed.** * This will solve Taric movement weakness and allow him to be menacing just by standing there. The extra tankiness will make you a true bot lane beast because you will hardly be able to use your passive if you want to CS top lane. The passive damage steroid will be on his ultimate making him a relevant source of DPS all early and mid game long.*

**Q: **Same one as yours except the life pool^^ (your number doesn't look too bad)

**W: Shatter: Taric shatter his shield and Armor visually dealing 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+ 20% armor) then 2 hands his hammer for a 4 sec adding magic (15/20/25/30/35 +30% AP) damage to his blow and gain 25 range. (Normal range to Pantheon/Kassadin range). Allies at 500 range gain 8% of his total armor while enemies at 200 range lose 5/10/15/20/25 (+5%armor) armor. **(Main damaging tool with it you will feel hitting hard. Also activating it close to an ally during the trade grant him 20% of your armor instead of 12%. It will result to you activating it if your friend is in danger and need that extra tankiness)

E:Dazle: Passive: Taric reinforces his armor with gemstones, increasing his armor by (10/15/20/25/30) while Shatter is off cooldown. He also gains a 500-range aura, increasing his armor and allied champions' armor by 12% of his total armor. Active : Taric emits a stunning light from his shield dealing 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+ 40% ap) stunning enemies in a cone 80 degree cone (range 300/320/340/360/380) for 1 sec. If an enemy is hit they are stun for duration of .2/.4/.6/.8/1 seconds. (What it means is that you can run with the light one and if they stay in your light they can be stun up to 2 sec) Leveling the ability increase your survivability and slightly the light range I just took your concept and push it further with the innate 12% armor boost for you and your allies you really don't need to give him up to 50 armor. Stacking armor has never been very difficult as Taric:)

**R: True Brilliance: ** **Passive: Gemcraft **:After casting an ability, Taric's next basic attack deals 40% of Taric's bonus armor in additional magic damage and reduce his ability cooldowns by 2 seconds if he attacks enemies champion.

Active: Taric shines in the darkest night and rallies all his allies cleansing them from any debuff. For the next 10 seconds, Taric emits an aura of light that increases his attack damage and ability power (30/50/70), while allies within 500-range gain half of those bonuses.

The Cleanse allow a second wind to the team and give them a steroid. It isn't a damaging ability anymore but more of a war cry to motivate his allies as you first intented. All Taric positioning capability with his strong passive.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you in a while. I was going to go from where I left off, but you were quicker than I was so I've got some new ideas. I will give the full kit first this time and then I will give some of my thoughts. Don't think I am not considering some of your suggestions! I have 2 different versions of the ultimate which also slightly changes his W. Once again, thanks for your time.

Passive: Gemcraft After casting an ability, Taric's next basic attack deals bonus magic damage equal to 20/30/40% of Taric's total armor and reduces his ability cooldowns by 2 seconds if it hits a champion.

**Q: Imbue Taric summons gems to protect an ally, healing them for 60/95/130/165/200 (+10% of Taric's Bonus Health) over 3 seconds. Taric is healed for half of that amount. During those 3 seconds, if Taric stays near the ally, the gems redirect 30/35/40/45/50% of the physical damage dealt to the ally back to Taric. If Taric chooses to target himself, the heal is increased by 50%. **

W: Shatter (Version 1) Passive - Taric gems reinforce his defenses granting him 20/27.5/35/42.5/50 bonus armor. Active - Taric shatters his armor, dealing 40/80/120/160/200 (+20% Armor) magic damage to nearby enemies and reducing their Armor by 5/10/15/20/25 (+5% Armor) for 4 seconds. During these 4 seconds the passive is lost.

W: Shatter (Version 2) Passive - Taric gems reinforce his defenses granting him 20/27.5/35/42.5/50 bonus armor. Active - Taric shatters his armor, dealing 40/80/120/160/200 (+20% Armor) magic damage to nearby enemies and reducing their Armor by 5/10/15/20/25 (+5% Armor) for 4 seconds. During these 4 seconds the passive is lost but Taric gains 10/15/20/25/30% bonus movement speed.

E: Dazzle (I don't really get your version. This is my original version with slightly better numbers) Taric emits a radiant light from his shield stunning enemies in a cone for 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5 seconds. If the enemies are hit in point blank range, the stun duration is increased by .5 seconds.

**R: True Brilliance (Version 1) Passive - After taking player-based physical damage or using Shatter, Taric gains 20/30/40% bonus movement speed for 1 second. Active - Taric rallies all nearby allies by applying an Imbue of the current level to all of them and granting them 15/25/35% increased healing for Imbue's duration (or grants 20/35/50 bonus attack damage for 6 seconds. Notice, no AP). For 6 seconds after, Taric becomes immune to all armor penetration and reduction. **

R: True Brilliance (Version 2) Taric majestically leaps to a small area cleansing all allies in the area from disables and applying Imbue to all of them. For the next 6 seconds, Taric reduces the effectiveness of armor penetration and reduction effects by 50/65/80%.

1st off, your suggested passive seems to be more like a pseudo-Malphite passive. I get that he needs mobility, but a shield on someone who already has a good chunk of armor just doesn't seem fair. Besides the duration is really short and it requires for Taric to stay still which seems discouraging. I have returned the passive to the old one, but now the damage scales at certain levels.

Onto the Q - it is possible that the ability is more akin to a Warlock but I also think that paladins, like Taric, are willing to sacrifice themselves for their allies (according to his lore, he will do anything to protect). He is also THE gem knight (a class of its own) so his traits and story can be unique. However, I have added the factor that Taric must stay close to the ally in order for the Imbue redirect to work. I am not sure if I like that change but its just an idea. I get that Soraka sacrifices her health for someone but I feel that this is somehow different from her sacrifice. It's overtime for instance. I can also see that you fear the ability may be imbalanced. What other changes should be made?

Cont. (Ran out of space)

Now the W - Taric should not have aura armor AND redirect. That basically mean his target won't take any physical damage. That's why I am trying to give Taric way more armor from his W. As far as the active goes, the two-handed idea is cool but I don't understand why Taric would shatter his shield. I would be disappointed if the shield disappeared even if I got to two-hand my hammer. Also, Tarics won't be building much AP so the damage would be irrelevant. However, I do like the idea of lightening up Taric's load after using the active. I have suggested two ways to do this: either have the movement speed be increased for the four seconds when Taric does not have his gems or have it be attached to his ultimate passive. What do you think?

Next, the E - I don't get why we should try to put the Shatter's passive on his Dazzle. Or did you mean to put it on Shatter? I think that the two abilities should serve two different purposes and shouldn't be dependent on each other. Honestly, I don't really understand your version of the E. If you could explain it in another way, I might get it. I can see that we both agree that the cone isn't a half-bad idea so let's try to keep rolling with it. I also want to completely take away all damage from this ability because I want it to have more utility.

Finally the R - First of all, I think if we are running with our version of Imbue, then this ultimate should serve to apply Imbue to multiple allies. In terms of Gameplay, this makes the most sense. Agree or disagree? I like the idea of giving a passive to Taric's ult. I have made the first version of his ult in this fashion and solved the problem of mobility in a cohesive way. Is it thematically sound? As for the active, I wasn't sure whether to add the cleanse to the first version or not. For now I have kept it out and instead placed a steroid either buffing allies' AD for a long time or their healing for a short time. In the second version I have kept the leap that I had originally suggested. I have, however, taken off the steroid from the allies and also made his armor pen/red immunity less powerful in order to compensate (btw what did you think of the armor pen/red immunity? too strong?). I think of this as a powerful leap: it would be kind of like Darius' ult except at a longer range. Taric is using strength and not speed to make his leap which, imo, makes it work. Right now, Taric doesn't visually look like he could leap thanks to his stiff cape. I think Riot could figure out a way to change this though so thematically it seems plausible. Paladins aren't completely immobile warriors ya know?

  1. To sum up the current gameplay problem with the new revised version is:
  2. Longer CD If you cannot close for a fight which shouldn't happen due to the low mobility.
  3. Tarik has an even shorter range and will have even more trouble to close the gap
  4. The heal make the lane not interesting to trade with because the ADC has virtually a 50 % damage reduction. Garen W has a 20% when active and you already don't want to trade with him. Furthermore trading on Taric is conceptually not interesting. It result to a boring passive farm fest bottom lane.
  5. Taric have a lot more of selfish ability making him a better top laner than a support bottom laner.
  6. Suppressing the Passive armor steroid make him tankier early and less late and does not encourage him to build as much armor.

Here I sum up the Pro and con so we can have a better visual to work on later:

What Taric loses: -Aura -Damage (think of how many blow you will have to land to compensate the dazzle/radiance damage) -Quick sustain/Resilliance to all in -Natural passive tankiness -Small baron (for version 2) -Ability to respond to harass without flash.

What Taric Gain: -AOE stun -Better duelist potential

  • Resilliance versus Late game ADC (Version 1 ult)
  • Clutch Gap closer with cleanse (hard to use compared to a direct one without jump cleanse because of the animaton jump time) If the stun last 1.5 sec even if you react directly you will cleanse around 1 sec stun if you aren't close by due to the traveling time. At close distance it will also be at 1 sec due to the animation. For people who lag or react slowly they will never cleanse anything. Without the jump it will be as fast than item 3222
-Better Tankiness mid game -invulnerability against AD base caractere but even weaker vs AP due to weak speed. -Insane escape ability (ult version one) ** Hope we could make it better.:)**

Hmm I had an idea that came out of the blue. Its for a totally different version of Taric's passive. What do you think? For now, treat this passive as a stand alone and not working with any version of the kit. (I am not ignoring yours! I just had an idea that might be nice)

**Passive - Gemcraft All of Taric's abilities place a beautiful gem on units affected by them for 3 seconds. If the unit is an ally, grant 8/14/20 (+10% of Taric's armor). If the unit is an enemy, lower their armor by 8/14/20 (+10% of Taric's armor). When moving towards a unit with a gem, Taric becomes zealous gaining 15/20/25% bonus movement speed. **

Thematically, this passive seems solid. Taric loving gems, using their powers, and sharing them with friends and foes just clicks. What I think this passive could do is replace Taric's current W which I think is hindering us from developing a fresh kit (we really want that armor protection and the debuff but nowhere else in the kit does that seem to be possible). With this we can start on a clean slate for the W. Besides, the current W doesn't really make all that sense. As I have come to realize (and as another commenter has pointed it out) why would Taric shatter his owns gems? Taric should be creating gems or using them positively perhaps not destroying them. Just a thought.

Now I am thinking for the Q to make it stick to 30%: everyone's input has been that the scaling is too strong and I am starting to agree. I also agree that the self-heal should be instantaneous. Without looking at the CD, mana cost, range, etc. do you think we can say its balanced?

As for the W, I think I will tone down the armor to 40. I understand that the aura is a really powerful tool. First off, I think its ok if Taric players decide to go to another lane (some already do). We can focus on his supportive attributes somewhere else. If we narrow ourselves to thinking "Taric is an aura champion" we hinder our creativity! He doesn't necessarily need an armor aura to be an armor-dependent support. Taric can still peel for supports through his other tools like the multi-targeted stun, the redirect, the aoe heal/cleanse. He's got some options. Plus, he could just stand in between the ally and the foe and just use his armor to be an effective middleman soaking up minion aggro, champion damage, blocking movement, and blocking skillshots (Taric has the ability to do that now and I think he could continue to so)

For the E, I get your idea better now. The concern I have is the zoning is too strong. Everything in front of Taric is a no-go zone for 1 second. Enemies would have to try to move around it but Taric could just keep following them with the ability (unless if its one-directional in which case Taric would become an even more immobile character and he would resemble Braum in too many ways). It's cool in theory I just think it has too much zone potential that has limited counterplay.

As for R, I realize now that Taric's MS passive is only reactive which doesn't solve his initiation issue: he has limited control over his mobility. For that, I have proposed the passive above. Negating armor pen and reduction may indeed be too difficult to deal with as it responds to one of Taric's main counter play strategies by completely negating that which is unhealthy for the game. In the second version, would a shield bash/charge work better? I think that would fit his theme but it would also imply something happening in between his cast point and his destination.

Ok I delete some of my oldest post for a better clarity^^

Back to business,

Your new passive is very good. Synergise well with his kit.

Q:Imbue Don't forget to change your old post about the percentage of damage redirection. A max of 30% if good enough at max rank.

**W:Shatter: ** What I worry isn't the aura only but the 12% armor passive. It is the fact he also get 12% of his armor as bonus that makes him a tank late game. A classic Taric build have item 3025 (60Arm)+item 3110 (100) or item 3143 (70 arm)+ occasionelyitem 3075(100) oritem 3047(25). Taric generally get 2 or 3 of those item depending of the game not because it will make him more resillient but because he uses the armor stat well and get a big bonus out of it. It isn't rare to see 300+ armor on Taric. Lets see what the 12% means late game. With the less bulky build Taric passive (30) + base stat (75) = 105 155 with the less arm build to 200 So in avg we have 260 to 305 12% of it result to 31 to 36 armor 30 is quite a bit compare to the 10 arm with your passive you are less tanky late game

One reward building Armor, the other is innate making rushing Warmog and frozen mallret more efficient.

About the E it is about the same stun duration lower range (300-350) but is more newbie friendly to make it last 1 sec with a shorter stun duration compensating. Some post suggest to make it a blind slow and I think it may be a really good idea.Less killing potential but more balance.

I think the shield bash is already taken by Leona, the warcry is the best imho

Actually, I think Taric doesn't get the 12% armor bonus. There ARE two passive icons on Taric while he has shatter up but the second icon does not affect him. The reason why there are two passive icons is so that when the player uses shatter, one passive icon disappears giving players a clear notion that they have just lost part of Taric's W passive (the base armor bonus) but the aura still remains. Here is the quote:

Passive: Taric's gemstones increase his Armor by 10/15/20/25/30. Additionally, nearby allied champions gain 12% Armor Armor (12% of Taric's Armor).

Taric does not count as a nearby allied champion here. However, even if I am mistaken, there are other ways to incorporate percent armor into Taric's kit. (I actually had quite a different idea for Taric's kit that does not involve the redirect damage but rather focuses on the passive I suggested to you previously. If you want to hear it you can let me know. I actually think it clearly works in a thematic way unlike the redirect which could be associated with other characters like a Warlock.)

I have held back from editing the original post so that people could comment on it and add their input before having it be edited without their say. Once the views/comment start dying down, I think I will either edit or repost this thread (probably not repost).

I have also seen the proposed blind/slow on the E and I think it could work. I am just not sure how to flesh it out. Like the damage, does it stun, cooldown, etc. I mean I think Taric needs some hard cc action in order to get up close and enter the fight and a blind wouldn't accomplish that. He would need some other way of entering the fight if his stun was lost.

Honestly, I still think a leap could work! Somehow! I know I am being stubborn but it sorta works visually in my head (not with how Taric currently works though). Is the leap more of a discontinuity thematically or visually? Like what if Taric looked like this, could he leap (NOT my artwork but I really like the feel of it)?

Here is what I have from lol wiki on Taric W:

Passive: Taric reinforces his armor with gemstones, increasing his armor while Shatter is off cooldown. He also gains a 500-range aura, increasing his armor and allied champions' armor by 12% of his total armor.

What he lose I believe is the flat armor only.

I think with your new passive a E (slow + blind) can work. Imagine a 30% slow and a 25% movement speed to close the distance. Taric will feel more dynamic and dissuade foes to fight.

For the jump, I believe he is a bit too heavy for that. He isn't like Pantheon who wear much lighter armor. However, a dash "captain America" style is possible but not sure if his kit does need it. Taric is on a line between balanced and broken.

Just send me a link once done and I will try to give constructive output.

Goal intended and contextual Gameplay:

Taric is a front line tank who support his team with strong aura. With my rework he is able to rush at a group of enemy and activate his stun at the right time to catch a maximum of foes. He is great to be the front line to check a bush. He is supposed to be equipped with iron elixir or captain enchantment so his team can follow the path he open when rushing in the fight. He is able to negate the opposite team CC and buff his team and frontline. If left alone he will deal incredible amount of damage to the backline even if he doesn't build damage oriented.(like old Taric)

Counter play: Knock back, focus or disengage, The buff steroid is still a short steroid and if prematurely push away Taric will have a hard time to position himself. His sustain while powerful take too long to be noticeable mid/late game.

As I said in the BIG Taric thread, I envision him more like a Retribution Paladin from LoL than a foppy shield wall. Think clean-shaven Tirion Fordring, or pre-Lich King Arthas. Protection through offense? Also, CLERICS use shields, imho. This cat's a paladin. He needs to be wielding a 2-handed crystal sledge and let the auras from his gems do the protecting.

As for abilities, I posted some ideas over there, but I honestly don't have ideas for names. Maybe somehow tie them to his old quotes? Like Insight, vigor, harmony, etc. I really REALLY want to see him flexible, in that he can be a protector bot lane, or a hybrid bruiser top, or maybe a jungler? Paladins have always been flexible in the games I've played, and I hope he ends up going that route.

Passive-

I think this can go one of two routes. Either give him scaling for every point of X you get Y. Maybe Strength from Armor, or AP from Strength? Something like that. OR, the other thing... What if, every 10 (maybe 15 would be better) seconds, your next auto would cause you to leap like 450 units to your target? Works on any hostile/neutral. I know it sounds kinda OP, but think of it this way: Like Rengar's leap, but with a CD, it's shorter, and you'll get punished if you go flying into a fight without an escape (which you won't really have.)

Q-

I like your link idea on heal. Every other heal in the game has some bonus aspect to it. I think Taric's is currently the only one that JUST heals. 3 seconds isn't too long, but it may be less OP if it just does that for the next attack made by a champion. Think of, say, Riven with 3 seconds of 50% damage redux plus a chunky heal. That's terrifying. So keep bonus heal amount on self, add link for heal on other champ.

W-

I don't feel like this should shatter, honestly. He's all relaxed and harmonious and shit, and I feel like breaking something he finds beautiful doesn't fit his persona. I'm more inclined to think he should have an AoE that looks like crystals that grow up out of the ground around him (kinda like Cho's Q, but that are anchored on the champ) and pierce armor. It should have a somewhat shorter range than Darius' Q. The passive armor shouldn't be lost on activation, but could be adjusted lower if it's on all the time, perhaps in line with the armor aura it provedes. So up the aura component a little and keep it constant? Would also synergize with leap-to-target passive.

E-

No more stun. I've been giving this one some thought, and I don't think it's really necessary. What do bright lights and glinting gems do? BLIND. This should be a short cone blind IF your facing him, and slow either way. So you leap to them (passive), needle them with some gems for armor redux (W), and then blind IF they don't turn away (E), but you still get a momentary slow (maybe 30% for 3 seconds.) Nothing too crazy, but enough to keep them around for a couple of whacks.

R-

I'm not opposed to this staying how it is now. It needs to affect everyone. It needs to give you bonus stats of some kind. An AP damage AoE component is nice. You could fiddle with the numbers and CD for adjustment, but I like the overall affect it has on a teamfight.

Not sure on numbers for any of this, or CDs. I DON'T like the passive he has now, honestly. It makes a mini game out of weaving autos when you're trying to support and feels clunky at best. I mention this because his other CDs would have to be adjusted accordingly. Also, the STR->AP scaling or Armor->STR scaling or whatever it ends up being could be put as a passive on any of his abilities, though I would think R would be the best place, just from a power-spike perspective. It would keep things less, uh, overbearing in the laning phase. It also needs to be something that just adds a little bonus amount of scaling to other spells, NOT make you an OP tank of healing and death. I'm just not sure which conversion would work best... Thoughts?

Hey thanks for the input. I had an idea for the passive, what do you think? Completely ignore any version of the kit for now.

As far as your passive goes, it seems like a weaker version of Rengar's leap and Taric does NOT resemble Rengar at all. Though I get we need mobility, giving him a spin-off Rengar passive just doesn't work thematically or in his kit. This is my thought. Now I have also thought Taric could gain movement speed for armor (like 15% armor becomes movement speed) and the bonus is doubled for 1 second after casting an ability. I like the name Gemcraft so figuring out a way to keep it would be real nice.

Honestly, most people always try to keep the W relatively untouched (its his best asset). Taric doesn't have to have aoe armor aura or an aoe armor debuff. I agree that shattering his own armor makes no sense thematically. But it seems we are limiting ourselves to the current Taric's W as being the necessary format for a reworked and new W.
