Hey uh... Can you not make Abyssal Mask not build out of Catalyst possibly?

######pls ignore the 2nd 'not' in the title, I done goofed and can't edit it now, I really wish I could tho' dang it.

Having it build out of Specter's Cowl felt like a pretty dang solid tank item build path for it and by removing, the only thing Specter's Cowl builds into now is Spirit's Visage (edit: and adaptive helm, mb on that).

Another thing is it just makes it feel like another generic mana tank item with a mana sustaining passive... when by late game most champions don't even have to worry about mana issues anymore, while the ones that do can get blue buff usually on tap or have pretty large mana pool by then.

Basically the TL:DR I'm trying to get across is this - if you guys really want another mana tank based item, could you please consider making a new item for it instead first of changing Abyssal once more please?

Honestly this is good. It needs another reason to be taken other than amplifying magic damage. Tanks need all the chip buffs they can get right now

Your title confuses me with it's double negative.

item 3194

Okay two

######That completely slipped my mind it's that forgettable.

Mig891 votes

That item is niche but i wouldnt call it forgettable. If theres a fed cass, teemo, syndra, singed, or any dot mage, it's passive is huge.

I honestly hate what they've made out of this item and it's becoming only worse.

Honestly the swap change of build paths for abyssal and banshee's made sense in the long run

Abyssal giving a slight damage amp and tank stats feels nice, while banshee's feels more enjoyable to build on carries since it gives more damage and no longer like "why would I build this tanky MR item that blocks one spell once every two minutes or so when I could just get the other tanky MR item that is spirit's visage and get better HP sustain?"

I think they just wanted to add Eternity Passive to it, which gives you a decent amount of sustain. It promotes prolonged Team Fights, where Tanks should actually thrive.

Also, I think Singed will start to rush this item almost every game...

And top lane Sej... and Sej in general... and Galio... Naut... Gragas... Maokai...

This is a good idea tho' and doesn't clash with any of their past item change reasoning-

item 3174

Oh wait.

edit: Oh right, and that champion below me too.

Anu3isII1 votes

Okay, so you fear that it will be overpowered and everyone will rush it (which is understandable).

But, and this is a big but, it still is in competition with Spirit Visage. While Abyssal gives nice passives and all, Spirit Visage still gives a ton of defensive stats alongside a passive that increases healing on you, so more health overall.

Most of the times Tanks build only one MR item, and the rest is Armor/Health items. Why? Because Mages get heavily countered by only one MR item, and the Health from all items seals the deal. So, most of the times, you have to choose between Spirit Visage and Abyssal.

Also, I doubt Abyssal will be good first item rush, because many champions in Top Lane deal lots of Physical Damage (Darius, Gangplank, Renekton, Riven, Yasuo etc.) that would also murder you if you don't rush Armor.

Athene's was so good, even against AD assassins it was rushed. But it was built on Mages that could literally farm milles away from minions. Not all Tanks can farm from distance, and that is why the Mana they get won't help them that much in the lanning phase. They will still be attacked by their opponents, and if it is a match-up vs AD champion, then you most probably will get behind.

I think that's the point, tanks can rush item 3068 into AD matchups, but can't rush MR+Damage in AP matchups as you need mana to utilise item 3001 passive.

My only consern is how the hell are 2 tanks with this item supposed to leave lane.

I love the new abyssal. Im a zyra support main and it was a perfect item to grab last night after getting my core of item 2301 item 3020 item 3116 item 3151 . The last two items is always a toss up and I used to grab ZZrot or locket for the resists and pushing power but adding MR from abyssal into a comp that has AP threats was huge when combined witht hat passive. All the items i buy alreadsy have a little health so a somewhat non-squishy zyra mid-late game helps me land full rotations of spells in teamfights and thats all i need for liandrys and rylais to put in work.

That's exactly why it isn't okay tho' and why the always taken and abused item 3174 had to be changed.

To borrow a part of information from this post explains exactly why - https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/xEN3huoi-putting-mana-on-abyssal-mask-is-an-abysmal-idea

{quoted}

  1. Putting mana on it would encourage battle mages, AP bruisers, and even some mages to build it. This is a tank item, and abuse cases would mean nerfs for this item and some champions if we're going off the way Riot usually deals with it.

  2. **If number 1 turns out to be incorrect, then no one will really build the item. **I'd rather take my stat-stick Spirit Visage over a garbage-tier battle mage hybrid monstrosity that gives me mana (that I would get elsewhere for less) that I may or may not need.

Honestly, i think building it from catalyst is awsome. We really lack tank items that offer mana sustain, and many tanks still have mana issues in the late which is why Iceborn is still rather popular. Not sure if abyssal is the best item for that thoguh, it already has a clear niche as amp for magic damage. However, i do think we need a solid tank item building out of catalyst. Maybe another big hp item, a version of warmongs that focuses a bit more on in fights sustain and raw hp rather than insane out of combat regen and cdr.

Elkington VI1 votes

I disagree. Unless I'm building Frozen heart or IBG, I run into mana problems mid-late as Trundle. I'm sure some other older melees run into similar issues.

What I would be completely down with is an item that builds from item 3057 and item 3211. Hell, I would probably skip Spirit Visage occasionally for an item like that.
