How to tell who last hit you and if it'll count as an enemy kill when you die?

Hi, Twice now in ARAMs, I have attempted at self execution under a tower or by minions only for each death to be counted as a kill by an enemy champion. Not only did those champions die already by then, but I figured I'd given it enough time between their last attack on me and my attempt at execution. So now I figure I need to learn how to strategize my executions better in ARAMs. How do I tell when your death will be counted as an execution vs. when it will be counted as an enemy kill?

Additionally,

  1. How do you tell who last hit you?
  2. What is the timeframe between it counting as a kill and you being executed?

Thanks! -kat

There is an invisible timer in League that goes off every time you take damage from an enemy source. This timer ticks away as long as you don't take more damage from any enemy sources, but refreshes completely when you do. In ARAM, this timer has a much longer duration. They did this to stop people from winning teamfights and then executing to go back and buy without any consequence. This basically forces a team to wait long enough for the enemy team to have a chance to take advantage of a mass execute, making it an unatractive prospect. This means the enemy team can come back with items and gold value the enemy team doesn't have yet, giving them a fighting chance.

I believe that timer on summoner's rift is 15 seconds, but I'm not sure the exact time for Howling Abyss. All I know is that it's longer
