Games feel like they end faster now

The first 14 minutes of a game with those outer turret barriers- game feels good. Good pacing, no “FF@15”. When those barriers drop, everything seems to snowball to a rapid conclusion.

While I understand todays league audience may want quicker games, and I respect that, its kind of heart breaking to me I have to go back to DotA 2 if I want 35-45 minute games.

This is just an observation, not criticism, entirely my opinion.

Yes and one thing Riot seems to forget is that the biggest aspect of comebacks is not having the average game time be so low.

Won't really argue with you there on the games still feeling short but do they feel better and comebacks are much more possible now? Yes.

If you're playing normals, this is to be expected as teams who are obviously going to win, will now win faster and norms have huge skill gaps in them. If you're playing ranked, eventually during the actual ranked season I predict the new close out the game faster thing will make ranked more even. All the players who shouldn't be where they are will lose faster, all the ones who deserve to be higher will win faster, and all the middle people will suffer while the other two groups are at war. But eventually it'll even out and the only time you'll have trouble is when you get smurfs in your games or boosted people. Both are pretty rare so it'll be whatever.

I think that the games are roughly the same length, but last season late game basically didn't exist and this year midgame is being pushed out by the new changes. Basically as soon as the towers fall out becomes a 3-5 minute fiesta then someone wins.

Tbh I feel like this is because of the new champion bounties. It feels like a ridiculous amount of gold is being tossed around. More gold = faster scaling = shorter games.

i will join you at dota 2, i can never find an excuse to play this anymore, when the ONLY friend I have that still plays this asks me if I wanna play I tell her nope game has gone to shit, out of a group of 17 of my friend group she is the only one in my friend group that still plays. (she hates the game herself but she plays for xayah)

Yeah, once the plates drop, turrets feel squisher than before and the game even more snowbally.

I've had 30 - 40 minute + games. I'm not sure why people act like games are ending quicker. Towers actually hurt now, they're super tanky, don't reset aggro dmg, etc. I don't understand what the boards complaints are. This is everything you guys have asked for. Games swing back with high shut down gold, and when they are stomps they end decisively.

SpaghettiVase11/23/2018, 5:41:18 AM1 votes

According to data, outer towers aren't falling as fast as they used to on average by about a minute or two, but the rest of the game is paced about the same. Average game length hasn't changed at all.

In contradiction to this, shutdown gold is really unfair now, because even if you die with 1k gold on you, you will still worth 700 once you respawn. It makes comebacks achievable so much easier and you litteraly get punished for littlest mistakes when playing extremely well?

HeliosTheMoon11/23/2018, 3:19:24 PM1 votes

I don't think it makes quicker games, it just makes come backs easier and sealing the deal easier as well.

Leto GT11/23/2018, 7:29:55 PM1 votes

Ive to aggree. Games seems to end faster . However, this sensation may come from the brutal transition after 14 min. It feels like going straight in late game.

Rip my favv and main champ...... Rip Nasus... Rip my Shurima... You were such a good boy and will never be forgotten.

CasterGilgamesh11/24/2018, 4:21:27 PM1 votes

in all honesty if riot just reduced damage across the board we would not need the barriers and this game would be put in the right direction....but i guess we need to add a band-aid gimmick to this game [zombie-brand-facepalm]

"While I understand todays league audience may want quicker games"

Frankly that is untrue. I have never met ANYONE who has claimed that. I don't know where riot gets there facts from, but they are lying.

This is so true.

while towers may do more dmg they lose allot of defense. a Ziggs can fart on a turret and destroy it.

That's because you've spent a longer time in lane, so when laning phase is over, you've accrued more gold than you normally would have in previous patches which makes you stronger out of lane.

TA Berserker11/23/2018, 12:45:31 AM1 votes

This game is shit wish i could knockup balance team abd hasagi them so they learn lesson Bring back S6

FridgeD11/23/2018, 12:53:33 AM1 votes

I agree on your observation. i think this has 2 major reasons.

  1. the tower plats give to much money. so winning lanes dont take tower, but create a big item advantage.
  2. the towers after 14 min are softer then paper. and with the item adventage on early game champs they drop even faster. i think the game snowballs faster and ealier then before, you just see the results later then before.

but maybe LS is right and it is just a question of time until players adept and games go longer. i really hope he is right on this 1, because 20 min games are too short imo.

DeracadaVenom11/23/2018, 1:07:39 AM1 votes

ikr, once the plating falls it immediately goes one way or the other

BigFBear11/23/2018, 5:35:59 AM1 votes

One reason is because everyone who play with Resolve runes take Demolish now since it's the only rune left that doesn't suck or is hardcore niche.

Also people (Jungler) have more motivation to attack towers now. I can speak for myself as Jungler: Even if i always knew that killing towers fast is the only/best way to win, i often leave it to the laners. Now i see the 5 Plates and i am greedy as fuck for the gold after a successful gank. Before the patch it gave me no benefit in the short term. The only thing i thought when i helped damaging tower was: "aww man, i lose time/gold in the jungle". Now i get rewarded instantly.

Also: Instead of roaming after a lane kill people greed for the tower now.

I don't say it's bad.

I kinda like this faster games. But they have to adjust XP and Dragon/Baron timers too. Because it makes no sense when there are 18 lvl but you rarely hit lvl 16 or never see Elder Drake anymore.
