I can make at best around 200-300 extra gold around 15 minute mark. And thats talking the best case scenario. I found that there's very little you can do once you start losing as every trip into enemy's jungle is like walking into Mordor.
So isnt it better to just grab other smite and be done with it? Even on dedicated counterjunglers like Shyvana?

The idea for poachers knife isn't to "actively counter jungle" because most of the time you are going to die. If you want to actively counter jungle you should get skirmish sabre because most of the time you are going to be finding their jungler and dueling.
What you want to do with poachers is create jungle pressure for the whole early game.
This is basically what you using poacers knife for. I've had a lot of success with it so that's my reasoning lol.

buddy I play shyvana jungle and only counter jungle buffs. And I run exhaust. I've never once used anything besides chilling smite/trail blazer on any jungler. I haven't played ww much since season 2. He's only popular because sabre is a broken item. not because he's broken.(seems to be a common misconception in this game that because an item is broken the champion is therefor broken rofl)

I usually play shy into lee sin.
Nothing out duels exhaust shy or trundle. Nothing.
Trundle is the strongest duelist in the jungle and Shyvana is one of the strongest split pushers from the jungle. you can afk side lanes until 4+ items all day and then 1v1 whoever comes to stop you with exhaust. Assuming you didnt fuck up early game you shouldn't have any deaths before the second or third dragon fight.
No, poachers as of right now is completely garbage and should NEVER be purchased on any jungler (not even on Shaco who is a notorius invader).

Poacher's is crap. Plain and simple. It's much smarter to take a jungle item that works in both sides of the jungle and either improves your overall farm and sustain, improves your ganking, or improves your dueling. That little bit of extra gold is purely theoretical and really doesn't make up for how weak the item is overall.
I thought any smite is better than the counterjungling smite atm.

Poacher's Knife doesn't actually make you BETTER at jungling and so does not improve your ability to clear camps - and providing additional rewards only for counterjungling, without improving the actual counterjungling process is ineffective when counterjungling is its own reward.
It needs something other than just giving additional gold, smite CD reduction, and an IMHO small speed boost when you successfully smite an enemy large monster.
