Whenever players try to improve at League, they tend to only focus on Microplay. What those players don't realize is that Microplay is just one of three major factors that will determine your success, and quite possible the least significant. To be great at league, you must be adept in Microplay, Macroplay, and Game Knowledge.

MICROPLAY Microplay is short term play, heat of the moment stuff that mostly tests mechanical skill.

  • Farming (The ability to last hit minions effectively in order to get as much gold as possible.)
  • Trading (The ability to, in lane, deal damage to and possibly kill the enemy laner while they deal less damage than you.)
  • Fighting (The ability to kill enemy champions while not being killed.)
  • Teamfighting (The ability to win fights that involve both whole teams.)

MACROPLAY Macroplay is play that will effect the game in the long run, usually involves things that plant success for the future.

  • Team Composition (The ability to make every champion pick benefit the team in some overall way such as adding tank stats or CC.)
  • Shot Calling (The ability to effectively decide where to pick fights and what objectives to take at what times.)
  • Vision (The ability to keep the map constantly warded, and to effectively use information gained by wards.)
  • Sieging (The ability to take objectives against enemy team resistance.)
  • Antisieging (The ability to defend an objective from the enemy team.)
  • Communication (The ability to relay and process valuable information with your team.)
  • Attitude (The ability to stay calm and collected even when behind, more valuable than it seems.)

GAME KNOWLEDGE Game Knowledge is simply knowing information about the game that will benefit you and your team.

  • Champion Knowledge (The knowledge of every champion's abilities, damage output, etc.)
  • Item Knowledge (The knowledge of every item's stats, abilities, and usability.)
  • Objective Knowledge (The knowledge of what destroying structures, monsters, etc will provide for your team.)

Self critique, positive attitude, and time is what really lets people improve.
