Honoring your team after losing a game is rewarding bad behavior. If you honor them it let's them think that the way they played is acceptable and they won't try to improve.
You may not agree with me and that is fine but I never honor after a losing game and I would suggest that others follow my example. It might help encourage people to try and improve their gameplay.

if that is your attitude u dont ever deserve to get honors.
you get honors for being HONORABLE not for "carrying".
there have many games where i choose to honor no one at all because no one deserved it. like once every 5-10 games or so. i choose to honor no one
that being said.. the OP is also being just as stupid as you.. like i said, honors are for being honorable.
3 people on your team can be trash and be impossible to carry, but that doesn't mean u cant get a 4th on your team who is a friendly person who does their best.. if u dont honor THAT person just becuase you "lost".. then you're an ass.
honor are not for winning or losing.. thier not for "carrying" they are for being HONORABLE.
idc if u are challenger smurf and u hard carry my team in ranked... if your an ass... you are more likely to get reported than honored.
just last game i got a player who fed all game.. (playing my main) who was the reason we lost.. i honored THEM. because they knew thier mistakes, they focused on improving... took advise , took constructive criticism, and was actively trying to improve their gameplay. i added them as a freind.. and i make a custom game with them and guided them through the champion. as well as giving them a "tilt-proof" honor
they were VERY honorable... in fact i was very sad i couldn't also honor the 
who was also very freindly and helpful to this player starting to learn 
.
we had a very fun near 50 min game.
that is what honor are for.. HONORABLE people.

Riot added a system and they wanted to encourage people to always honor somebody after every game so they added an incentive for that.
My goal is to get the honor 5 for the ward and shit so I'm acting according to how the system is designed.

u really dont know how well this new system worked then.. for someone how has played since season 1 u should have remember exactly how toxic the game was before the new honors was introduced.
it is a LOT better.. and i mean a LOT.
i give riots balance team a LOT of shit becuase their balance team for the most part DOES do a shit job.
in fact i wouldnt even be PLAYING this game if it wasnt for the REST of riot.
the balance team might suck, but the team that makes the skins (for the most part) is very good. (seriously though supergalaxy nidalee is disgrace full you should stil be ashamed of that)
i am more than willing than spend real money on amazing skins for the few champions i love..
the LORE team is also AMAZING.. again i do have a grip with the change to the darkin, but again for the most part they do a fantasic job.
the MUSIC is beyond amazing... i actually listen to the music in my car, i have a playlist of just under 20 league songs/instrumentals on my ipod.
ever so often there was a truly hideous sound like the 
release login screen. but for the most party.. the music.. like EVERY part of riot.. does a FANTASTIC job.
its JUST the balance team.. i guess the champ dev team to some degree.. but its the BALANCE of said "new champ or rework" that ultimately has to pass the "test" for "this is remotely acceptable to put in the game...
and that is a test riot has failed miserably at for over 3 years.
i post in the balance section becuase it is the ONLY section where riot NEEDS feedback. i can only make so many posts saying "omg this new music is fantastic, or I LOVE THIS NEW SKIN!!! I CANT WAIT!!! but this balance team... they cant get a single damn thing right...
every patch that goes by now where riot doesn't BREAK something i now consider a good patch.
it has literally gotten so bad that " at least they did break anything" is something i HOPE to see in every patch notes...
and that is NOT ok.. they need to be FIXING things.

I do remember the playerbase being more toxic years ago. Some players were so toxic I will literally never forget them for my whole life. But ever since they started banning people everything has gotten better.
So I think the best thing Riot is doing against player toxicity is banning/punishing toxic players tbh.

Behavior and skill are separate terms when it comes to League (or any multiplayer game, really).
Behavior is how players treat others in their games. Skill is how they perform at their position as a player. The honor system was, in my opinion, released with more emphasis on behavior rather than skill. The only honor category directly related to gameplay talent is "Shotcalling." However, even if you are a decent shotcaller, if you prove to be a jackass in game, I am much less likely to honor you.
This mentality that honor is only for players who perform well is something that people have raised flags about on multiple occasions.
Alex h87211 votesThe only time i won't honor at all is if eveyone on my team makes me hate them (either by feeding super hard and not trying to play safe, being toxic, or giving up), but usually about 60% of losing games even where my team gets stomped i will give at least 1 person the tiltproof
