New coin is garbage.

TL;DR title.

The health regeneration was one of the best aspects of the Coin line, now it's basically worthless on Rakan (and a few others). I like the active but not having any regen makes him really easy to harass down. And walking into combat to gather those coins is just suicide. The stupid extra skill point is pretty dumb too imo, not worth all the effort that goes into it.

i really dislike the quest reward too. It doesn't even feel like a reward. It's like "sweet!! i can rank one of my 2nd abilities to two sooner. Cool i guess!."

late game, you're just behind.

I mean it'd be sweet on a mage type champ that tries to harass... but that's what frostfang line is for. I feel like their quest rewards could be easily reversed and it'd be way better

Going coin always meant you lost trades versus a spellthief user, because the coin gives you no combat power. The health regen equalized this somewhat, but it was still really hard to play coin supports into enemies that push you in and harass you under tower.

With the HP regen removed you only have your 3 biscuits for regen, and AP supports can abuse the shit out of you.

But rejoice, You'll get an extra skillpoint at 15 minutes, so it's worth it.[zombie-brand-clap]

they changed to so champs like Soraka Janna actually have to lane and not stand at their tower shield/heal botting the AD

I think this would be a great time to bring up the old rock/paper/scissors paradigm of bot lane supports.

Back when I started in Season 2, there was a clear understanding with the majority of the player base that sustain beats poke, poke beats engage, and engage beats sustain. That paradigm is not really being upheld with these new items, and I think it's time we start to talk about it.

I think the three gold items ought to be tooled around those goals. And, to be fair, spellthief's edge IS. And that's why it works. The mechanism of spellthief's is tied to successfully playing out a time-tested support strategy: poke.

By contrast, relic shield is this strange frankenstein of goals. It has health regen, which you might think is a sustain item, but what about melee supports that engage? What are they supposed to do? At the end of the day, a little health doesn't help you when you go all in on a ranged ad champ. You're gonna have to flash out if you don't kill them, and relic doesn't help you kill them.

As a result, coin is now this strange frankenstein of poke/sustain. But only mana sustain, because it would be too much like relic shield if it had health regen (I suppose that's the logic, anyway). So now, you really need to be a champion with a heal to use coin, or it doesn't give you enough sustain to do anything in lane (other than die, of course).

Why don't we make relic shield an engage item? And make coin the sustain item? And keep spellthief's RIGHT where it is? Would that not work better?

relic line is busted. spellthief line is ok coin works basically only on ranged champions now and even then those champs are probably better of getting spellthief

supports are lvl-starved anyways, it should give a lvl not only a skillpoint

If it is to dangerous for enchanters to get the coins, they can/should increase the pickup range.

Alesya3695/4/2017, 11:37:04 AM3 votes

Its gold generation is also lower than that of the old coin, and getting mana coins while having full mana is jsut retarded. I would get rid of mana coins, bring back mp5 and increase overall gold generation by about 25%.

As a Soraka main this is one of the biggest nerfs to her. Right now there is no reason to not go Spell thief and get a 50% run move speed bonus as its 10x more useful then an extra skill point.

Maybe if it shows visible underperformance they will consider either making the mana coin a floating biscuit instead for small burst of regen instead of constant. They also may attempt to allow it to level an ult sooner. I doubt anyone beyond supports will use it just to try and fail to do the quest.

The only way I see them not doing that is because of something like pro play were they flip flop all over the place and someone might potentially get a free lvl 2 ult early just by rotating lanes. Although that actually would be pretty interesting to see as well.

The Active is fine. I just wish it was a level up instead of just a skill point. Supports are EXP starved enough, even with all of the work the balance team has done to try and circumvent that. I feel like you give coin supports a free level and drag back some of the old buffs and it'll be great.

Yea, to be frank I don't see the appeal of the Coin, I've been playing support for years.

inplane5/5/2017, 2:23:17 AM2 votes

Not sure how Riot expects any Support buying item 3301 to be able to excel in any way. Forcing squishy Supports to go close isn't making them more "interactive". If anything, people would just drop the item altogether and go for item 3303.

Coin has been getting crapped on since they made the changes they did to Talisman of the Ascension, formerly one of the best items in the game if not the best in the right hands, back in season 5. I still used it with Sona and Soraka, though. Now I think it'll just be a liability if I pick it over spellthief. Maybe the reward would be better than Frost Queen's, but maybe it would only turn into a big payoff when you're already ahead anyway?

Janna Damn, gotta get those coins... here I go!

Caitlyn First Blood!

Riot could fix Ancient Coin by changing the mana coins to coins that gave health or mana (whichever is lower).

IMO, Janna isn't nerfed by the change. Soraka needs health regen to "W". If anything, the coin nerf will lead to less interactive gameplay. 10 heals, back to base, repeat until Warmogs is complete.

Unpopular opinion: i actually like it. Playing an agressive lane like nami lucian or nami jinx, as nami or another ability spam support i can just sit there picking up mana coins if we have lane pressure anyway and just heal to infinity and beyond. im liking it personally

k wìx5/4/2017, 7:47:02 PM1 votes

Imagine if the reward could push one of your 3 basic abilities past its level cap.

That would definitely make me reconsider going Coin.
