Genuine question about Taric and "suppression"

I was under the impression that "suppression" means you can't cast spells.

Our Malz had Taric suppressed, and he activated his invulnerability ult to survive it. This doesn't seem like it should be possible; is there something I'm not understanding?

Taric's Ult isn't a channel, it just has a delay. If he casts it the only way to stop it is to kill the target before it finishes.

^^ If the little... star or sunglasses or whatever your skin has is coming down, he already cast it. I'm guessing there was a timing issue. Maybe they both cast at exact same time.

And the truly outrageous thing is that even if you kill him, his teammates can still get the invulnerability.

Taric Outrageous

If he had an ally with bastion I think they (and allies near them) would still receive the ult if Taric died before it went off. Not sure though.

Yeah the Ult on your ally won't stop if they are still alive.

If he started his ult before malzahar ulted him then it will go off and he will be invincible.

Yeah; if it protected Taric from the ult, he must've activated it before he was ulted. It is not a channel so it cannot be interrupted; it is merely a delay (Lux and Ezreal ults function similarly, though the delays are like 0.5 seconds. Still, people complain every now and then they should've "interrupted" their ult).

Lux ult's also got a cast time though, because I've had it interrupted by death before.

Taric's ult is interrupted by death too.

Taric's ult is interrupted by death too.

For his allies too?

Huh, didn't know that.

I mean, if you die during the cast time, you don't get the ult because you're dead, lol. But apparently it will go off on an ally that had had bastion when you casted ult.

Hey! Thanks a lot guys! That makes a lot of sense. I was pretty sure I was misunderstanding something. And... why would an honest question without any bitching get a downvote? Some people man...
