New Support Items!

So, a few weeks back there was a thread about improving the support role and giving them more credibility and providing more of a global awareness of their contributions to the team. Stemming from the fact that a support could be the person to make or break a game from the first 2 minutes of play but unfortunately is rarely seen by the rest of the team as being very important. (unless they are pulling off epic plays it is rare they are acknowledge for positive things)

The previous thread had many great ideas about calling out assist streaks, finding ways to show their contributions of healing or boxing out enemy during laning phase.

New Point: After seeing the, what I think, are amazing changes to JG in S5 with the new smite based items I think we could do something similar for the supp. New items would be amazing. If there were more global items that provided buffs/protection to the team the support would have many choices in how to approach his game. I know that Aegis provides MR and Talisman provides an active movement speed boost but...

For example there could be an item that provided +20 armor for supp and applied +5 armor for whole team. This item would increase by assists for the supp stacking +2-5 armor globally per assist. This could be mimicked with MR or even provide an item that provides supp Armor but globally grants MR and vice versa.

Another example would be a standard support health/armor/mr type item but its passive when fully completed allows you to place 2 pink wards on the map. With new jungle in season 5 this would be a smart item if the enemy jungler is playing the counter jungle style.

It would make the supports impact on the rest of their team more relevant. It would also help advance intelligent gameplay decisions by giving your support multiple choices of items to build into that would be reactionary to their enemy team.

They've removed every global passive, they aren't going to make an item with one. In general, they don't like auras either, I don't see them bringing back an armor-granting one like Runic Bulwark.

Personally, I believe Riot needs to cease their stance of blatant nerfs and veiled nerfs masked as "tradeoffs" they're doing to all supports. They should give unadulterated buffs to the ones that are clearly underpowered. Riot thinks that making supports' abilities super flashy and noticeable for their teammates is the proper solution for increasing awareness of their contribution, but they do so whilst blatantly nerfing those abilities. From the observations I've thus far made, Riot's current stance is that they hate supports and want them to be worthless and I still don't understand why they feel this way.

  1. Global effects are OP, and impossible to balance. ahem Ardent Censer bug ahem
  2. Armor aura is OP, just look at Taric then and now.
  3. Old Locket of Salami was changed specifically so as to not to provide both resistances.
  4. Snowball mechanics cannot be so powerful.
  5. Supports are already really relevant, and I doubt that these items you're trying to suggest would only be bought by supports. They would be incredibly impressive tank and maybe bruiser items, too.

What do you guys think would make supports be able to make stronger reactionary choices in the game? I really like this idea that Riot is trying to make changes that allow players to make more important decisions in game rather than just following standard builds every game.
