i just got a notification that said this, I am VERY confused as to what is going on, i am plat 2 and have not done any sort of placements. what is going on????

Since S6 took your S5 solo/duo ranking and turned it in to a dynamic queue ranking, your current rank will still be your start-off place for S7 Dynamic queue. Since your S6 "Dynamic" queue rank is going towards S7 Dynamic queue, there's nothing to go to S7 "solo/duo queue".
So it's as if "solo/duo queue" is a completely new concept that didn't exist before and thus everyone starts from nohting.
That's assuming a lot, since I haven't received this notification yet. I'm assuming it's going to be sent to everyone over the next week or so. Probably Riot's attempt to ensure no one who got boosted in Dynamics ruins the game in solo/duo, or gets an easy solo/duo border next season since they started high enough.

It sucks but it makes sense. People were abusing the dynamic system to have themselves boosted into high elo. This is the most efficient way to move the bad players back to where they belong.

Because during placement matches you could get a bunch of boosted players ruining the matches in high elo. The results of high MMR placement matches are unreliable atm due to the number of boosted players influencing the results. The idea is that if everyone is reset to bronze/silver, the ones truly capable of carrying themselves will do just that.
The number of matches during placements won't help this phenomenon, only getting the boosted players out of high elo entirely will.
Kiharon2 votesA hard reset only makes that problem worse for currently high MMR players, while extending the problem to currently low MMR players as well.
With a reset, currently high MMR players would have to deal not only with whatever boosted players exist, but also the non-boosted players that now have the same MMR as them due to the reset. Also, currently low MMR players now have to suffer through games heavily tilted one way or the other by the players that wouldn't otherwise be in a game with them.

I don't know if they're singling out dynamic preference players or not. It wouldn't surprise me if it's everyone, though.
Death and Doom1 votes^ i played VERY few games with more then one other person, (which is solo/duo queue) Think more people need to get this notification and we can see where they are placed and compare. we dont know whether it depends on dynamic or team or solo. and we dont know where other ranks of players have been placed.

If you started at bronze and made it to plat purely during the dynamic queue season, most people are going to see a giant red flag in this situation. Though to be honest, I think Riot should have the S5 end of season ranks which actually had solo queue. I'm surprise everybody isn't starting off from around there.

I'd rather not play them again since I don't really learn anything from them, but I suppose the games were good for a laugh.

Auz the Ripper1 votesThe thing is that silver 4 is the mean and the mode of all players. Only about 25% of players are in Bronze whereas 40% are in silver. Since it's where the most players are naturally, it makes a decent baseline.

When Riot does their resets at the end of the season, it's not like they can just reset you to 0 MMR. They have to put you somewhere, and it seems that is where they've put you. You should still get to play placements, but everyone has a "starting MMR" before their placements. It may not be accurate, but again, it's not like you can just have 0 MMR - they have to put you SOMEWHERE in the system.

A hard reset would be 1200 MMR. 0 MMR might actually be impossible. You would have to lose more games in a row than I would bother calculating.
B6WS TSW991 voteswhen I first made it to plat that was back in season 5 so no dynamic queue, and in season 6 I made it to gold 1 with no dynamic games, then played some dynamic games (mostly 3 premades) and made it to plat, after I made it to plat, I started playing a whole lot more dynamic queue with friends, and now I have dynamic preference, if they send me back to silver, I would be so pissed

If your skill level is gold+, hard resets are easy as hell if you start immediately. You get to go against tons of silver and bronze players. If you wait for everybody to settle into their deserved ranks, then you just get stuck with people who have evened out to about 1200 MMR which is B1 and S5 aka the exact range where you can't hard carry easy, but where a teammate will still often do something stupid enough to cost a game without you being able to do anything to stop it.

It seems to make climbing far less aggravating.

I've been playing since season 2. I was there for 2 hard resets. Just unlike most, I'm more a mathematician than somebody who thinks the world has come to an end every time they get a bad game. I didn't cry troll every time there was some unskilled player on the team. I realized the majority of the time, it was just some unskilled player. And both the trolls and unskilled players obeyed the laws of probability. More times than not, they were on the enemy team. Instead of only paying attention to bad games, I focused on the games where the enemy team had the crappy player and got my wins there.
Though admittedly, that was more in season 3 and 4. In season 2, I was the bad player for most of it since I was still new.

(Everyone had locked in their picks. final timer ticking down) the when game ended in post-game screen it popped up and i got to actually read it. no options attached to it, just a statement with an "ok" button underneath it.
