Animations vs. hitboxes

I've been playing league for about two and a half years now, and something that has consistently upset me is the inconsistency between the hitbox and the animation of an attack.

I can't tell you how many times I've died to Lux 's ult, where there is clear space, not only between the warning space and me, but when there is CLEARLY SPACE BETWEEN ME AND HE ULT TO SEE THE GRASS BELOW. I've also had this happen on other abilities, like Leblanc 's chain hitting me when it clearly goes past me or doesn't make it to me.

I want to know what other animations seem to be inconsistent with their hitboxes, and maybe if we scream loud enough, there might be an explanation, because lord knows this probably won't be fixed. (This is just a board post, after all.)

I made a special image in Paint showing how Lux ult actually looks like. http://i.imgur.com/EJOCyVO.png

Green - ground level, point of origin for Blue. Yellow - "placeholder" for Lux, top - point of origin for Red. Blue - ability indicator and damage hitbox. Red - ability visuals. Purple - space where Blue and Red overlap.
