As a mage main, I stopped taking sorcery tree altogether around since half of the season.

It has nowhere the gamechanging power and utility that domination has, nor the resource management for early game like inspiration...The only reason you take it is because you want scorch and manaflow. From the start of the season, this tree always had issues with aery and comet clashing each other in terms of their functionality, and to top it up, it has one universally UNFUNCTIONAL keystone that only xin zhao uses.

The sorcery tree basically has no customizable options, thus shoehorning quite a lot of mages playstyles into a tedious grind. Say, Camille can go comet. PTA, or hell electrocute and can pick from a variety of styles to play. But for mages? Just sorcery with comet. I just ditched that all, and picked domination. This tree is boring as hell. It has no sense of rewarding moments, like conquerer, PTA, electrocute, predator, aftershock.

I mean that's cool and all but meta isn't some holy text for people to use ALL THE TIME EVERY DAY.

I like Phase Rush on Ahri because it's fucking fun.

Kennen takes Aery.

High elo Kennens take Phase Rush as a specific counter rune to top laners like Tryndamere. It's pretty much adding AIDS to cancer for melee matchups. Even ICU had trouble with Irelia and her thousand dashes dealing with this lane.

She does trash damage, whats the point of kiting?

I like doing it?

Literally it's fun to stack on top of her passive and see how fast she can go for three seconds?

I play her as a support so I don't intend to do trash damage I just want to land my E, burst them, and leave a bleeding body for my carries to murder.

Reasonable, but why not go glacial augment which helps you kite and support better?

Totally Not Jinx1 votes

Augment relies on auto attacks, which I'm not particularly keen on using unless there's a kit-based reason to, like Lux or Sona.

Whereas if I run Phase Rush on Ahri, combined with her passive, I can run around like a maniac prepping for skillshots while simultaneously dodging the enemy's shit, and distracting them for my carry to farm.

But no one used Glacial for their autos? It's for buffing GLP and twin shadows

How do you deal with not having Manaflow Band? It's the only significant source of mana regen in the game.

Actually there IS a solution that can even override the amount of early manaregen your opponent has until lost chapter and make your enemy's manaflow band insignificant.

...I did the math and it was simply buying another doran.

Doge20201 votes

Or get corruption pot for starting item and dip into the inspiration tree for biscuits. My regular build as nasus has biscuits with doran shield as my starting item so I can sustain through the early game easier or even out sustain my opponent (if they are somebody with almost no other forms of regen outside of their potions, like Riven)

I played Ziggs on my main a bit over a week ago. Manaflow Band restored 905 mana while Presence of Mind restored 5523 mana. Granted, I went 15/8/12 that match, which doesn't always happen. Let's compare that to a Kog game where I went 6/3/2 instead. MB restored 213 mana while PoM restored 1324 mana.

PoM at its worst restores significantly more mana than MB at its best.

Manaflow is only good on champions like karthus or anivia who needs to spill out as much mana as possible by making their mana bar longer.

Mfb also increases your base mana significantly - it’s not that good for restore like past iterations.

Transcending...it is a shame it is a rune that only kicks from lvl 10. Pretty much core on Syndra. If you do not have it, it is literally gonna mess up your combo potential.

Bisaknosp2 votes

pretty much yea, manaflow band is also mandatory since syndra goes oom pretty fast later on

Besteal1 votes

Idk. I have played quite a few games on her without manaflow, or even sorcery, and she feels fine. In fact once stats are decoupled from rune trees I'm pretty sure that Domination precision will be really good on Syndra.

I mean, while I agree with you that Sorcery isn't all that it could be...

Phase rush gets plenty of niche use out there by plenty of champs. It's the best Keystone on Diana in some matchups, as well as lots of mid/low range mages(Think Swain, Vlad.). It's not "Use this every time" levels of amazing - But no keystone should be. It certainly has it's moments though. Want to beat Darius toplane? Use Phase Rush with a Hit+Run playstyle and spam laugh as his slows don't do anything to stop you from walking away from him.

This. Sorcery was something that was clearly designed for siege mages for the most part. However, their output pales in comparison to Electrocute and Dark Harvest. It doesn't help that, when comparing the mediocre ratios of Aery or the dodgeable Arcane Comet, Electrocute just does all of the damage on a ridiculously short CD.

"Just don't fall for the same antic and you'll be fine!"

Tell that to the LB blinking all over the place, or the Zed harassing me from over half a lane. Riot needs to gut that keystone...

I swear, I only use this tree playing Velkoz. (Which is undoubtly the perfect solution for him.)

The sorcery trees main selling point from the official reference is "Empowered abilities and resource manipulation." While in reality, "empowering abilities" has only 3 RUNES OUT OF 12 and 2 of them are keystones, "while running fast as fk" is 4 in seperate trees. But the hilarious factor is, predator alone will win hands down to all of them combined. Also the "resource management" is only manaflow band, and while it creates "reserves", there is no concept of "output" of said reserves.

They should add a rune that would make you gain adaptive ap with the amount of mana you have. And a keystone that can output said mana reserves to make abilities devastating and meaningful. Say how about a keystone that grants you a evolving mana crystal that has an active you can expunge mana to add up ratios on your next skill?

mages didnt take sorcery cos corrupting pot+ time warp was BROKEN thats the only reason
