What is "scripting"?

I don't play much League too much anymore but I appreciate the game so I watch lots of different content, be it Twitch, YouTube, or big tournaments. But I hear a lot of players say things like "that guys is scripting" and stuff like that in different videos. I assume that it is some cheating method but what exactly does it do/mean? NO, I do not want to know how to do or where I can find but it is a lingo that I don't understand so I was wondering if anyone could inform me what the heck it means.

Scripts are programs that make your character do things automatically. Scripters are people who use scripts.

For example, there's a script that lets your champion dodge skillshots almost all the time. Another example, there's a script that let's katarina use her full combo and jump to another enemy until everyone is dead in seconds. There are also simple scripts that make sure your champion always gets the cs.

The player using the script only has to hold down one button while the script operates (It's usually the spacebar). So if you're using a katarina script, you would just enter a teamfight and hold the spacebar while your champion kills the entire team automatically and with super-speed.

The problem with scripts is that everyone else in the game will notice that you're dodging too perfectly or that you're using your abilities too quickly. They also get you banned permanently.

Didn't realize there would actually be a way to dodge skillshots; figured they were more like macros. Thanks for the information. Was just really curious watching a bunch of videos and hearing "those guys are scripting" but not knowing what the heck was actually happening other than "I guess it is cheating/breaking TOS."

Hi Guys, big concerning questions here. I have recent been banned saying that i have used 3rd party applications. I have never in my life downloaded or used anything from 3rd partys. It is worth noting that i got 3 random emails from league saying i need to confirm my email. I never ended up confirming it because i had never seen that before but not sure what to do now. I have sent a ticket but nothing yet... just a little concerned because i have been playing LOL for about 5 years now with alot of money, time, and effort spent. i guess my question all in all is whether this has happened to anyone else and if there is anything i can do, this is extremely frustrating.

This happened to me as well. I received a permanent ban for cheating/using 3rd party software. I have never done anything like that, ever. I submitted a support ticket, and the response I got was pretty much "We found no evidence that your account was hacked from the outside, therefore you must have been the one who cheated. The ban will remain in place." So yeah, years wasted. I'm sorry this happened to you as well.

someone said in my game that i kept doging all the kai'sa skill shots and shes like oh no you did it to good and now im scared that i might get banned im only 13 years old and i have never heard of scripting and now im worried that i might get banned because in arurf i kept spaming evelynns q and she thinks i was scripting but i wasnt so now im worried

I don't think you need to worry, as in ARURF I have seen so many people dodge with unatural speeds and not get reported for scripting.

haaa, so many people that accused me of scripting explained this so much worse, glad to hear specific examples. I'm 43 exp in NA with Vel'koz (1mill 221k) and they almost explained it like I was doing combos but normally, but like if in Mortal Combat someone was just low punching constantly, but with my Vel'koz q's hitting everytime as a support at like 87 degrees (almost a right angle). Thank you for clarifying @RIOT I'm not scripting (p.s. if RIOT is looking at this, you have created your toxic island that you refused to create by not creating it, I uninstalled).
