That's the idea. The only way to make Gold not matter is for you to get everyone on your Team to 6 Items.
Doesn't matter how far ahead they are, you get to 6 Items and they can't increase the Advantage anymore.
The bonus was an Infinite Scaling Champion on your Team in Sion, who only gets more Beef as the game goes on.
