A comparison of the abilities Death From Below and Noxian Guillotine

Preface Following is a comparison between two very similar abilities that exist in the game. The comparison is made because the abilities themselves are notoriously similar, both in nature and mechanically. I personally have some toughts on these abilities but I will not post them here, comment below what you think. Let us start with Darius ultimate Noxian Guillotine.

Ability one: Noxian Guillotine

• True damage of 100-300 + 75% of bonus attack damage. Increasing up to 100% depending on number of hemorrhage stacks to a maximum of 600+75% bonus attack damage. A bonus damage of 300+ is easily obtainable at later levels, clocking the max true damage to over 825. • Cooldown 120-80 seconds, which means at 40% cooldown reduction the ability has a 48 second cooldown. This can further be decreased by using the passive masteries Ultimate Hunter and Cosmic Insight. Cosmic Insight gives a further 5% cooldown reduction making the total 45%. Ultimate hunter can then give another 25% cooldown reduction on top of that, making the total come out at 33 seconds. • Range of the ability is 460 units. • Mana cost is 100 at level 1 and 2 and is reduced to zero at lvl 3. • Noxian Guillotine can be cast repeatedly if it kills the target unit, but can not target minions or monsters of any kind. • Nearby enemy minions and monsters are feared and slowed if the ability kills its target. • Single target.

Ability two: Death From Below

• Deals 250 - 550 physical damage and gains damage equal to 80% of Pykes bonus attack damage and 1.5 per point of lethality. With a bonus attack damage of 200 and a lethality stat of 40 means Death From Below can deal over 770 damage. • This ability will automatically kill any champion in its area of effect that has less hitpoints than the damage of this ability. • The cooldown of the ability is ranging from 120-80 seconds, making it the exact same as Darius (48 with max cdr, and potentially 33s). • Range of 750 units. • Mana cost is exactly 100 at all levels. • The ability can be repeated within 20 seconds if a champion is killed within the area of effect of the ability. • Affects minions and monsters. • Area of effect is two lines crossing that are around ~100 units wide and ~550 units long. (Forced to estimate area of effect due to no specific numbers given on the surface of the internet.) • If there is an enemy champion in the area of effect, pyke will instantly be teleported to the center of the area of effect. • If a champion in the area of effect dies, a assisting champion will be given a token know as "your cut". This token will when consumed provide 100 to 400 gold, depending on the slain champions bounty and if first blood has been taken.

Epilogue

It was hard to find correct statistic for lategame bonus attack damage and lethality. I could potentially calculate it based on a maximum potential attack damage, but this is subject to change depending on the state of the game. For example you could have a teammate buffer up the attack damage with an ability or you could take down infernal dragons. Since the bonus attack damage is so highly variable I choose to look for a well established build instead and note how much total the attack damage is and subtract the base attack value. You should add that Darius Ult can be shielded, Pyke's can't. Pyke's also scales with level (for some reason) so at level 10 Darius is still only doing 100 plus bAD damage while Pyke is doing 400 plus bAD.

I like the writeup though, the main difference is about time frames, Darius needs to stack else his 100-300+bAD is all he'll get really. At level 6 is Cait's hp is around 800, so Darius just ulting would only do 13% of her HP, getting full stacks does 25%+ but takes time. Pyke's does 30%+ at level 6.

Out of the 2, I find Darius at least fair in the idea that if you stayed in the fight long enough to get hit but it's full damage, well that's your fault. The only thing I like about Pyke's is it's a skillshot, so he has a chance to miss, everything else about it is bullcrap. Resets, scale with level, the sheer damage it does, all should be lowered or shouldn't exist.

This the kind of feedback you are looking for?
