Diana Issues?

This is not an OP rant. Rather, this is where I want to learn how to beat Diana.

In my most recent game, I played as Orianna against Diana, and everything pre-6 was fine and dandy.

Once Diana hit six, however, the nightmare begun, as she killed me under tower while I has half life, then started roaming bot to lynch their souls.

From what I had gathered, Diana was able to one-combo kill me at level 7 after I had bought Chalice. Even with extra magic resist (going up to 90), me and my team were still being deleted. There was almost no reaction time. She didn't even land her Q half of the time, just a hop, skip, and a sword to the gut.

So what may I do next time? Should I call my jungler to camp lane? Should I pile on MR? Should I disconnect when I see she is my opponent? Or is she actually OP? I want to know.

Diana has 2 major weaknesses:

  1. hear pre-6 game.
  • Diana's mana costs aren't low. As a burst assassin, this really isn't a big deal. But keep it in mind; she's going to rely on her passive to farm which makes her easier to harass.
  • Diana's bulky for an assassin, but primarily because of her shield. She's the same as Riven in this respect; she builds glass cannon and doesn't last long when her shield is on CD (unless you run into those 2% of Dianas that build bruiser).
  • Diana has half her damage tied into her ult. Without it, her damage output is low - even compared to Oriana.
  1. no escapes
  • Diana's survival plan in any situation is to kill everyone. This gives her a binary play style.
  • Have your jungler make regular appearances in lane and clear out her wards. It doesn't necessarily have to be a gank. Diana won't dive you if she's worried about a nearby jungler unless she's fed. Then she'll just eat him for dessert. She doesn't have Katerina/Akali/LeBroke/Riven/Draven grade snowball potential; a 1-for-1 trade isn't worth it for her.
  • Harass her as best you can while staying safe (and dodge those Q's!). As mentioned above, a good Diana won't die for a kill in lane. (A bad Diana will die for a red buff. . .)

As others are saying, Oriana isn't the best pick against Diana. Take advantage of her terrible pre-6 game and harass the F out of her. You'll both be pressed for mana (until you get a chalice - average Diana will probably buy damage), but you're passive and ranged AA's will give you a significant advantage. Once she hits 6, just play safe and ask you're jungler to have a strong presence to deter her all-in. Diana's Q also has a right-handed curve, not a straight line. So when dodging, favor dodging left over right until you notice her starting to compensate; then dodge back as her range will be slightly reduced by the compensation. As Oriana, there's really not much you can do about her all-in. If your hit by a Q, just try to get away from her or kiss your ball goodbye. Try to avoid it until team fights come around which is where Oriana truly shines.

That's Diana for you. With Doran ring, you can't really zone her because she can Q and get majority of her CS. When lvl 6 hits, you will be the one getting zoned. from then on. I found that Annie Brand Talon

Will beat her.

i think she deserves nerfs regardless

Um. Sooooo, I played as Diana vs Orianna earlier today. And the time and events seem to match. O-o You remember the Diana's summ name? lol

If the Diana goes to lane (she's better in the jungle), take Morgana vs her. I played against a Morgana support as Diana jungle, she was the only one on their team that could slow me down. If she Q's, Q her back ASAP or you'll be dead in a second. In a teamfight, if she doesn't kill you first, hit R. She wasn't the one killing me, but she slowed me down enough for Varus to do the job. I haven't been playing her long so I don't know of any other good counters yet. I bet Lux would cause problems too.

Brand and Talon destroy her.

I'd recommend rushing Chalice into abyssal scepter. That extra MR really helps, I did that vs an annie sometime ago and it worked wonders.

She is worthless against ranged champs pre 6. bully the hell out of her and put her far enough behind.

Sid887/31/2015, 3:19:59 AM1 votes

Dodge Q to shut down at least half her damage from her combo... If she still dashes to you after missing her Q she won't be able to dash again.

RowanEnd7/31/2015, 3:49:47 AM1 votes

Really focus on dodging her Q. If she does miss, that's your chance to attack since without CDR Diana cannot deal damage. I would also suggest getting ganks on her before she hits 6, that's her weakest point.

I play her a lot and I find that her power spike at 6 is enough to compete with the enemy champ even if you had died from them already/you're behind in cs. Some say that its overpowered, but I personally think she's balanced since if you miss her q her whole combo is off and can be killed easily :)

She's another anti-mage like Cho'gath. There are very, very few mages she can't trade with. Try a fighter against her. Build merc treads and potentially 1 more MR item and she won't be able to trade with you at all. Swain, Heimerdinger, Ryze, and Cho'gath are the only mages that I am aware of being able to handle Diana assuming you are both completely equal.

Just hope that she never becomes popular, or becomes popular enough to be nerfed

She really just feels like AP Riven She is tanky as fuck, but can delete you in 2 seconds She has a fairly long range dash that can be reset just by hitting a relatively easy skillshot Snowballs like a motherfucker Shield, mad AoE, will all in your ass at 6 regardless of tower being present

This might sound a bit cheesy but if you have to 1v1 Diana and won't get any help you need to build in a different way. Start from RoA for extra hp, you can even grab some mr for being extra safe (you can sell it later or buy GA late game). You will feel lack of CD reduction from Athenes but you can remedy this with right boots. Your third item could be void staff that will give you nice dmg spike in mid game teamfights or Zhonias that will enable you to bait diana into blowing you up just to be caught in the middle of your team without any chances of survival. If you are scared about DIana ganks, grab tp and counter her or just use it to go back into your lane and push it so she can't roam without loosing anything.

Or just gank her over and over with your top and jungler. WIthout flash diana is pretty much free frag at some point.

there are a couple of things you can do as Orianna vs Diana

First, level your shield at level 1 and auto attack her as much as possible. Shield any Q she throws at you. Smart diana's will start item 2041 anyway so you can come out ahead in trades if you have item 1056. Never shove the wave pre-6 as that will give her free farm without jungle pressure. Never use your mana except for shielding her harass or she will outsustain you.

Harassing her with autos should keep her low enough to scare her so she can't really go all in at level 6. After you both recall never initiate trading but keep the ball on you and shield her QR combo if she goes in. Then you can W yourself and possibly R yourself if she goes all in. Auto her on her retreat.

Having barrier or heal also helps. Just don't give her early kills and she will have a hard time during teamfights where your utility and damage will shine

iainB857/31/2015, 2:56:04 PM1 votes

She should not be one shotting you in lane, especially if she doesn't land her Q.

Your story sounds like the typical, "I fed an assassin early and then she started deleting my team" post.

Like most assassins (Akali Talon etc.) there is little counter play if they get ahead early besides not trying to 1v1 them anymore.

Sachabot7/31/2015, 1:50:52 AM1 votes

I believe she's come back into strength with Runeglaive. What you do with this information, I don't know. I would guess that calling your jungler to abuse her taking Smite is probably a decent call pre-6.

stealthfox947/31/2015, 3:49:37 PM1 votes

I mean there's no denying she's strong but she has arguably the worst early game of any champion. So pick someone who can abuse her early game.

Angry Monster7/31/2015, 1:54:59 AM1 votes

He q arcs only one way (her right) so use this to help read which way to run away. At first always running leftish will work till the Dia starts compensating and throwing over more left of you. It is a mini game of reads. The key part is making her miss with her Q so she can not double jump you.

Your playing ori so you can not readily CC her as she is dashing in. You can Ult though and stop the damage. Ori without low CDR hard CC is not going to be able to stop the dash pattern. You are in a bad match up though

Your best defense is to shield immediately after she Qs to less the impact of the in coming ult and speed away if she does not go in immediately. Is she does go in active your ult (best at max range) , if you are fast enough you will block dash and get her. Her second dash will be up though.

If you missed the block the ult will still hurt her and your shield will of eaten some of the impact.

Instead of pen boots try merc boots for extra MR and MR per level blus as a runes set up.

FantasySniper7/31/2015, 2:21:59 AM1 votes

She is genuinely strong this patch, no doubt about it.

To defeat her, you have group and avoid any of her engages, picking off whoever you can and hopefully laying down poke of your own. Once someone eventually gets caught, you dogpile on her to make her regret it.

If you're not grouped, a fed Diana is almost impossible to beat without a serious CC chain.

war composer 27/31/2015, 2:24:40 AM1 votes

blame item 3100 hehe

ChaosThief7/31/2015, 2:29:39 AM1 votes

Diana's main power spike is at level 6 (not including items)

If you push her around early enough (you were orianna in this case, so you can just auto attack her away quite a bit since you have more sustained damage initially) you might be fine. But still play careful when she hits 6, since she still packs quite a punch.
