Is the Whole Username Issue not a concern?

Hello, Ive been playing this game for a long time... and Ive been told someone else has my profile name, therefore I must change mine. I've voiced my refusal with a riot support person, to which i was essentially told "sorry, you have to".

Putting aside the fact that It isn't right to force people to change people's usernames, I did a little research on op.gg, looking for who also shared my name... Myself and two other accounts: 0cool1; NA, Plat 4, Level 224 (ME) 0cool1; RU, not ranked, level 30 0cool1, LAS, not ranked, level 5

I am around 200 levels ahead of the other two, the Russian account is not active, and the level 5 account, while having games 7 days ago... Is level 5???

How on earth is it right to disregard the amount of time I have put into this game, and then lose my name to someone who is level 5?

I'm hoping this gets seen, thank you for reading.

Username is not the same thing as display name.

You dont seem to understand what this change is and what its meant to do, so please allow me to explain; Riot games is transitioning from a localized client to a global client, and are forcing all accounts to have a UNIQUE username for the global system. This unique username will be for your GLOBAL account, allowing you to easily swap between regions and games.

It IS bull, by the way. Unique names are a thing that should have been abandoned ten years ago in favor of numerical handles. Theres a reason why discord and blizzard use #number string as their unique identifier. I, for example, have had my account since 2010. I was forced to change my username - which ive had for almost ten years - because some fragboy from ~~brazil~~ LAR got the email before me and claimed MY username.

Firstly I am glad for the clarification, thanks for informing me.

Your second paragraph is exactly in line with my thinking, Again referencing my original post, Ive got 200 levels over these two guys, and the only other active account is level 5... I mean has riot considered customer loyalty at all? If I were competing with someone who had a large playing history, fine I could see a valid argument, but the guy is new, and yet gets username priority cause he was faster?

Those are Summoner names, not Usernames.

The username is what you use to log into your account that is not your password, which means you shouldn’t be able to prove who has it because NO ONE should know what yours and other players usernames are.

If you’re using the same username on PBE or different server then you can simply change those accounts usernames first, if those accounts don’t belong to you then good luck.

Thank you, I realized my mix up with Username and Display name. My issue Is with how Riot disregarding the disparity between the playtime and history I've put in the game compared to the other two. These are relatively new accounts, and yet they don't seem to care.

I was told "Really am sorry as the only thing I can suggest is to update your username. Q__Q" .... which while not rude, is not helpful.

And I can't even login to my pbe account for some reason. SO cant check lol. Thanks for posting.

You're still not getting what's being said here. You have no clue as to whether those users are even using that name as their username. There could be another guy who's had the account since Season 2 in EU who has that username but his summoner name is JohnnyTouchMeGood.

You're only able to view people with the same Summoner name as you, which you found 3 other people. There could be 10 other people with the same username. It's unlikely but nobody has any way of knowing how many people actually use the same username as you.

Cool, but then why can't the support team tell me that? I get a response from a riot employee with no information or explanation as to who gets that unique name.

Also, why can't usernames have a number ID with them, that way if usernames overlap, there can be a number to uniquely identify them?

What I need is an explanation, not "nobody has any way of knowing how many people actually use the same username as you.", cause I guarantee that at least Riot knows.

Because they can't give you information as it pertains to someone else's account.

Unique identifiers isn't a route Riot has chosen to go at this time. Perhaps they don't have the ability to set up their database that way right now or maybe they don't feel like it's worth the trouble to change things.

You're not going to get an explanation any better than what has been told to you here on the boards. Riot won't tell you how many other people are using your username and they're not changing the process or requirement to change your username. You're like two weeks late to the uproar that happened and Riot is very aware of how many people were upset of having to change your username after having it since the beginning. Your situation is not unique as many other users including myself had to change their usernames against our will. But as of right now, Riot has no plans on changing their process or coming up with a better solution regarding this issue.

because that is not how it is setup? also are you going to be entering that number every single time when you login? that is what an username is. The thing you use when you login. It would be way easier for them to just have you do what every single other company does and that is "your email is your username". You want to know something? just add a number at the start or end of your current username and chances are you get to keep your username pretty much largely intact but nah, let's complain about it instead.

The only thing you can really do is hope that the other player is a active player, and play on your smurf till they give up and change their username.

They will have to do it on jan 20 if they’re active else they can’t play the game till username has been changed.

Hopefully your PBE account doesn’t have same username in that case.

there is such a thing as cleanup timers on accounts with no activity. the fact that you encountered this means you haven't played in over 2 years and the system freed up the name for someone else. the system was constructed to free up cool usernames desired by others so that they would still be available if the person who took them first started playing league then quit.

the only option you have is to change your name or wait 300+ days if the accounts in question on the same server as you goes inactive for as long as you did, which is highly improbable since those new players would likely be using their new chosen name for a long time to come.

its not at all a matter of fairness. you have only yourself to blame for not logging in once in a while

I feel like you completely missed Riot's announcement on merging League accounts to Riot accounts.
