No Love for Spellvampers

Right now there is absolutely no reason to itemize spellvamp over other items that provide sustain. Aside from the obvious fact that players only have item 3146 item 3152 item 3124 as build options--which phases out most AP casters--the few champions that do benifit from it would be better off investing their gold into item 3153 item 3027 or just straight up HP Pool + Armor/MR to stay in a fight. There is very little synergy between items that offer spellvamp and other items which most champions are able to utilize to their fullest potential under the meta that's currently been laid out for us.

I don't claim to know how to remedy the situation but it would be nice if Riot would at least pay some attention to this useless stat; maybe scrap the current items that utilize it and start introducing new spellvamp items that provide more relevant stats across the board, like MR or magicpen, with corresponding kit changes to the few champions who use spellvamp as a crutch for their already toxic self-healing mechanics. If not more relevant stats, tying spellvamp to some wacky, game-changing item passive/active abilities would be just wonderful. Increased healing from DOTs/AOES is also something that should be considered, as should changing the masteries around so that champions who invest heavily into the offensive tree can toss a few point into something that benifits spellvamp-users to a greater extent.

Champion diversity may be growing but our build options are really becoming more and more restricted. Changing the spellvamp items in a way that offers more utility/counterplay would, I think, do the game wonders.

The problem with Spellvamp. It's pretty much only useful on AP Bruisers. Assassins won't worry about sustain when they all in you. Siege mages will remain out of range, making the sustain unnecessary. (or they get focused down.) Spellvamp works best on Tanky DPS.

Because of that, only a few champs will use/abuse spellvamp. Making Spell vamp work on the likes of Ziggs will only make it abused by the Vlad, the mord, the Rumble.

Then maybe Riot should introduce a spellvamp item that decreases in potency for every spell hit within a ~10 second timeframe, to discourage it being used by said champions?

I think with a little creativity it would be more than possible to create viable spellvamp for said champs.

Edit: I also think there is an inherent problem with Vladimir and Mordekaiser as far as their interaction with the enemy laner goes and that's something else Riot should definitely address, but that's another discussion entirely.

You could possibly do that, but again, it's about what champions want.

You could make a spell vamp item that helps Ziggs more so than the other AP Bruisers who typically use Spellvamp. But would Ziggs actually buy that when Athene's, Morellos, and Ludens are available?

It's not that you can't make Spellvamp good on these champs, it's that Spellvamp doesn't help these champs do their Job.

Sustain in fights would help Ziggs do his job tho. The problem is that right now it isn't even a viable option because the one caster spellvamp item is competely outclassed by other items and has very little synergy with other items outside of stacking more AP. Give him an incentive to buy it and he will buy it.
