It seems to me that ap masteries are a bit fucked up.

I played a game as jungle diana today, with my newly made masteries. I wasn't even able to clear red, though it had been a piece of cake one patch earlier. Is It only me or should I accuse the mastery system?

In case it's only my problem, what mastery/rune pages would you recommend in this patch(mainly Diana in mind? :)

from what i hear a lot of jungler are having a hard time clearing, and honestly the new masteries were buffs to certain ap champs i feel and slight nerfs to others

Siyther11/14/2015, 3:18:35 PM11 votes

i love the changes, except for the part where, u cant even play a mage cause they suck so bad

New masteries feel too forced and unflexible too, I hate it so much. There's like nothing good for AP almost and I have no idea why they put cdr for defense side...

Jungle AP masteries are fucked but other than that, lane keystone AP masteries are on key if you use it on the right champ and correctly.

EndlessSorcerer11/14/2015, 8:33:29 PM3 votes

I tried doing a clear as Diana in a custom game (so no leash).

Runes: Attack Speed Marks, AP Quints, Flat Armor Seals, Scaling MR Glyphs Masteries: 12/18/0 [Thunderlord's Decree] Starting Items: Hunter's Talisman, 3 Health Potions Ability Order: WQWE

I cleared the following camps in order: Krugs (smite), Raptors, Red Buff (Smite), Blue Buff, Wolves.

I finished 1 camp short of level 4 with enough gold to purchase my Jungle Item and ~250HP left. This is without killing a Scuttle Crab for extra healing.

Did you start with the Refillable Potion? That gives you 250 less HP on the initial clear than 3 Health Potions.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend starting Refillable Potion on anyone unless you plan on immediately backing after your first clear to buy. It doesn't leave you with enough health after clearing 4/5 camps to gank lanes and the healing (200HP per back) is negligible.

You don't really need to upgrade it into Hunter's Potion either. I find that by the time I have finished my Smite upgrade, I no longer have sustain problems clearing the jungle.

While I've only played three junglers thus far (Rammus [Machete], Xin Zhao [Machete], Diana [Machete]), I have had no problems clearing on any of them.

Don't know if other people have commented on this, but I have pretty optimized runes for jungling so that's helped a lot. I also tend to go HPx3 instead of refillable, since it gives a much much stronger start. To get Hunter's Potion you have to spend the equivalent of 8 Health Pots, so a lot of times I think it's a lot better to just buy HP until Hunter's Potion gets buffed.

For Jungle Diana you should be going AS marks, armor seals, AP glyphs, and AP quints, all flat. It's a weird page but Diana is a weird champ, AS is the best mark for jungling and Diana does well with AS, and you need the raw offensive stats for your first clears. This is also the same page for lane Diana, save swapping scaling HP for seals and scaling AP for glyphs (both are preference).

I died to blue camp as nidalee... I was so embarrased.

Superdum11/14/2015, 8:30:05 PM2 votes

Didn't riot also add magic resist to big jungle monsters during preseason? I remember reading something like that on one of the PBE patch notes a week or two ago. I could be wrong.

Ludovico11/14/2015, 6:09:26 PM2 votes

It´s just the early game that´s gotten a bit harder.

I just played as Elise, and had a wonderful game.

Abyssphere11/14/2015, 3:27:32 PM2 votes

I'd like to see your masteries before saying anything, really. I know Elise clears fine in season 5, but I've heard complaints about Nidalee in contrast. I feel like everyone's unsure about their masteries and might be making bad choices though.

RisenDarkKnight11/15/2015, 5:12:53 AM1 votes

I don't think it's an ap problem. Almost every jungler has trouble clearing more than 2 camps now. Most champs I just clear 2 camp, recall, buy hunter's potion, then I'm good.

Squidblimp11/15/2015, 7:03:20 AM1 votes

The reason you can't clear is because your smite timer is 15 seconds behind, because the new map starts 15 seconds earlier! This was an oversight by Riot, and they will be fixing it. Not being able to smite your 1st and 3rd camps make your clear MUCH harder.

Kitten of Evil11/15/2015, 8:09:08 AM1 votes

There are zero AP-focused masteries. Riot made sure that every single mastery is suited for AD champions. Thunderlord? Deathfire? Scales with AD. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.

If there are masteries that scale ONLY with AD champions (Warlord's, Fervor), there should also be masteries aimed ONLY towards AP champions.

DarkSunSovereign11/15/2015, 12:02:05 PM1 votes

I also played jungle Diana and I cleared extremely well, I guess it's your masteries. HOWEVER I realise aps have been nerfed and need buffing. I did 0/18/12.

Specter02711/15/2015, 1:51:34 PM1 votes

It's a mastery nerf to Junglers in general as well.

Old Masteries it was easy to get -2 Jungle Minion Damage, +36 HP, +3% HP, +5% Attack Speed, +2 Auto Attack Damage, +5% CDR (usually had 10% CDR @L1 from runes+mast = more spam with blue on first clear) and some flat AP or AD. You can't get all that anymore, and it adds up to a weaker clear. If you take all the jungle clear stuff you lose out on all the PvP masteries, which is anti-fun. There are some mastery tiers that are useless. I think T3 Ferocity gives 2% Vamp or Scaling AD+AP. 2% Vamp is like 1 HP during your first clear, and scaling stats don't help you when you need them. Even the jungle talents are poor. For instance you can choose between Biscuits or Buff Duration. Buff Duration was designed for Junglers, but Biscuits give you like 90 HP on your first clear which can mean life or death to some champs that have challenging first+second clears.

I'm shocked by how poorly done and ill-conceived this patch was TBH.

May I ask what runes you're running? Because regardless of what items you get, if you're runes are wrong.. you're gonna have a bad time.

You need AS Marks, and likely even AS in your Masteries. AS is essential to EVERY jungler for the best clears. Not AP. But you can certainly run both. Especially on Diana, she wants a lot of both (her passive is amazing).

Ask yourself, whats more important.. surviving and fast clearing your first clears? Or a little bit of magic pen that helps a tiny bit mid-late game - after you're constantly behind from not being able to gank, because you're dealing with your camps?

Also, start Machete still.. don't listen to recommended items.

Dingding12311/15/2015, 5:01:38 PM1 votes

The "AP Assassin" class is mostly dead right now. (Oh no. No LB or Fizz. Whatever will we do.)

So if you're a mage, the masteries you can pick from are either tankiness/sustain or next to nothing outside of a little extra damage (although Ionian Boots and Boots of Swiftness are dirt cheap now; you might have a reason to get those early on if you're squishy)...Those essentially are your options.

Since Diana has a nice shield, I'd suggest making use of it and going into the defense masteries, especially if you're jungling. You get a free ride in the jungle if you take the defensive keystone that gives you max hp when you kill big monsters.

DragonShea11/14/2015, 9:38:23 PM1 votes

Riot forgot about AP. This seriously needs to be addressed.

Spoofghoul11/14/2015, 10:18:40 PM1 votes

I think ap champs have good masteries. My problem with them is that they sit in uncomfortable mastery buildpaths.

FistOfSharkiesha11/14/2015, 10:44:27 PM1 votes

Tank and AP masteries were completely and utterly fucked while support and AD masteries got a lot better.

God Mode Enabled11/14/2015, 11:23:51 PM1 votes

you probably should be buying regular HP pots instead of the recommended refillable flasks

regular pots heal for 50 more HP

stop being a scrublord who follows the REC path

FistOfSharkiesha11/14/2015, 11:25:39 PM1 votes

AS quints and marks, flat armor seals, flat AP or mr/lvl glyphs.

AS is the most efficient rune for jungle clearing on nearly all champions, and it's just that much better on Diana with her every 3rd hit mechanic. It's also even stronger with the on-hit damage from machete instead of DoT.

If you aren't a tank or Lee Sin you should be using AS marks and Quints in the jungle.

Orders11/15/2015, 12:18:20 AM1 votes

I jungle as Diana and I found that you need the Tough Skin and Insight mastery from the Resolve tree for maximum effectiveness early on.

Despite Diana being AP, I still started with Hunter's Machete as I personally found the Hunter's pot to be absolutely terrible. You either get Hunter's Machete + 3 pots (450 health) or Hunter's potion alone. Plus Hunter's potion doesn't build into any jungle item.

I think Riot really wanted junglers to pick into the Resolve tree instead of Cunning. Now, you either have to choose between Tough Skin, Insight, Vet Scars or Savagery, Merciless, and Dangerous Game.

Also, it helps to get Double Edged Sword on melee champs like Diana and I found the extra damage helps a lot.

My mastery page for Diana: http://puu.sh/llLeM.jpg

Runes: 9x AS marks, 9x Armor marks, 6x CDR/level glyphs + 3x AP glyphs, 3x AP quints

Start: Krugs (smite), Razorbeaks, Red (smite), Blue/Scuttle

Shosuko11/15/2015, 12:55:09 AM1 votes

Masteries are crap if you're ap.

I don't like the vote question at all, since i don't agree with either statement. I realy like the new mastery system but I feel they need to do some balancing. I don't think the new masterys were a nerf to ap champs over all considering the new meditation mastery (its basically a free chalice) but rater now they favor wave clear / poke champs over burst. Even then Storm raiders surge seems relay good on ap assassins to keep low health targets form fleeting.

so do i think they are balanced? no but i relay like how they give so many many more options.
