Tahm Kench "Change" is actually a hard nerf

Preface - I'm an unabashed Tahm Kench lover. I have 900k mastery points on him and I'm consistently active in the Kench Subreddit and Discord discussing how/why Tahm is either over-tuned or under-tuned.

Riot, Tahm Kench will literally be unplayable. An 11% nerf to HP at level 1, for a 1% gain to HP at level 18? 11% is 2 auto attacks worth of HP at level 1 for champions with zero items. 1% gain is not even a quarter of an auto-attack at level 18 from anything other than Karthus, in most instances it's less than a quarter of the damage a 6 item ADC would do! Tahm Kench will literally never be picked in solo queue and this still won't solve his pick/ban status in Competitive play.

You want Kench to be balanced and see play in solo queue while limiting his impact on Competitive? Nerf the cooldown on his ultimate -- make it 180/160/140 seconds at rank 1/2/3, while increasing the range by 1000 at all ranks. Revert the CD to 6 seconds on Q. This will balance Tahm around his ability to out-macro (one of the primary reasons he's picked in competitive). Either that or re-work his ultimate completely.

Kench relies heavily on HP, more so than Braum -- who has a dash, a wall/shield, and a hard engage ultimate, and a Q that allows allies to apply towards stacks and stun -- Kench has a sometimes reliable ultimate that falls off significantly in late game play, no dash and no hard CC. Kench is pick ban for a single ability in pro play with a 47% winrate in soloqueue.

You've already doubled the CD on W when used on allies, and it's broken half the time (where if you use it on something other than an ally that dies mid-animation, it still gets hit with the FULL cooldown). The base HP nerf will affect Tahm much harder than it will affect Braum. Tahm cannot E-shield at 50 HP remaining and block 600 damage. Braum can Wall at 50 HP remaining and block 600 damage for himself as well as an ally. Tahm has no dash. Braum can dash. Tahm has no combat ultimate. Braum has a combat ultimate.

You are comparing a 50% win rate Braum (AFTER his baseline nerf from last patch which you directly reference as a comparison for the reason to nerf Tahm this patch) to a 47% win rate Tahm Kench -- Before this nerf even goes into effect!

Riot you are literally going to make Tahm Kench unplayable after this nerf. He's already the LOWEST win rate support for ALL regions in Platinum+ Elo, and you are NERFING HIM AGAIN.

Tahm Kench Base HP down; HP per level up.

Similar to Braum last patch, we’re looking to drain some of Tahm Kench’s baseline sturdiness. Reducing Tahm’s base HP should make him rely more on his defensive tools to find success in lane, while increasing his HP gained per level will make it slightly easier for him to wade into the enemy team late game. Base Stats HEALTH 610 ⇒ 540 HEALTH GROWTH 95 ⇒ 102 W - Devour BUGFIX Allies Tahm Kench has devoured will no longer sometimes be targetable when first swallowed.

A 21% drop in revenue over the last year? Great job balance team. That is all you guys, keep up the good work.

from anything other than Karthus

Karthus what if he goes crit karthus? item 3095 [sg-lulu]

ok shitposting aside i agree TahmKench is already weak, and that this is a really hard nerf, after this change he will be unplayable while in the pro player scenario he either become unviable because he's too weak or nothing will change since the reason why he's picked is not what they are nerfing

i swear,RIOT team really have a talent for doing the wrong choices,i'm starting to think that they work so hard trying to find the dumbest way to change this game [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be.

If riot really wants to gut his laning phase, why not just give him something alittle more self reliant (like cc or damage or more defensive stats) once he gets late game and make his laning phase more defined as him just preventing him and his adc from dieing…(or just him if he is a solo laner)

I seriously think this should be served in the form of a higher skillcap (say he gets alittle more put on his q, I know tahm already has a lot on his q but its the only thing he has to throw at the enemy)

Not some pity 1% hp buff.

Maybe whenever he stuns someone on the enemy team with his q or w he GAINS grey health, depending on his level and max hp...(actually that's stupid how would he use that unless hes just trading)

Tahm Kench's ability to make an ally untargetable ruins flashy £€$ plays, and his ability to reposition an ally and himself is very strong in coordinated play, so Riot is deliberately making him unplayable until he can be reworked (no official word yet, but it's obvious).

RIP Kench, they're killing him at the point of the game he's strongest. Not only is this a heavy nerf to his HP, but it'll hit his early damage, early farming, all of that as well due to his passive

ofc its supposed to be a hard nerf The scaling hp buff is only there to keep his hp the same lategame

Tell that to the 16/4 Tahm Kench from my game this morning...

FYI, after this patch if you want to win against a Tahm Kench, which, chances are people won't pick him, just all-in at level 1. You pretty much can't lose. Even a Janna bot lane will do enough damage to shove him out of lane.

continuous gutting of tk

no nerfs for graves

buffs for kha'zix because they want to push the skin

this patch was so fucking gross and terrible

Rip, I literally haven't even been able to play tahm since they doubled his w cd 3 patches ago after nerfing his hp and his e like 4 times in a row. I wish there was a way fans could ban champs for pro play because I want them to stop picking tahm when he's already solo q trash so he stops getting sejuani'd ahem sorry gutted while already literally unplayable

Naalith9/26/2018, 7:19:12 PM3 votes

Sorry my friend, it looks like you took part in the cardinal sin of enjoying a character pro players use. This crime has basically removed 5-10% of the roster and that number will probably continue to grow. Riot really, really needs to separate pro balance or just ban those characters so they don't have to nerf them for real players.

When a bad joke as the whole Season 8 becomes more like a vulgar display of incompetence (cit.).

+56 HP at level 18. Painful as it may be in the early stages of the match, it's still a late game buff and he's the only champ that got a nerf. And don't ever try to tell me that anyone buying item 3151 was indirectly nerfed because 5 AP is not going to be a big deal.

Noone wants to see Tahm kench in solo play. He is either oppressive top laner with 0 counter play if you pick any melee champion into him, trading with him is near impossible thanks to his Max HP scalling and CC that makes ganks a fucking heaven, and they are unwinnable thanks to his genius passive. As a support he is get out of jail card on 18 second cooldown that frustrates two players at once on opposing team. On top of that he isnt even that fun to play. And no you are not gona tell thats subjective. It isnt subjective. He is immobile damage sponge that is slow and most of his power comes from utility rather than making flashy plays. That champion and any other tank got well deserved nerfs, from both balance and fun perspective.

Alright, but consider this. Take his Grey Health shield, and consider how much that gives him in a fight. By lowering his base HP, it forces him to rely more on his shield during trades, as opposed to letting himself just heal back up through it. Having a stronger Base HP, as in the early game, allows him to more reliably sit on his grey health, instead of using his shield, as he's less in danger of getting to a point where he could die (and then he shields), so that he can just regen the HP.
