Making "support" more "Fun"

You guys have tried several times to get more people to want to play support. By "play support" I assume you mean "Not go top laner in bot lane / minimage in bot lane" etc.

How about making sightstone like the Jungle item?

Suggestions :

Make sightstone a basic (not combined) item. Lower the cost, eliminate the health.

Mid tier upgrades : Ruby (adds health, combines with ruby crystal) Sapphire, (adds mana, combines with sapphire crystal) and Regen (health and mana regen, combine with faerie charm and rejuvenation bead) These can be combined with gold items to make the three Eye items (for Equinox, Watchers, and Oasis, respectively)

Full Upgrade sightstones : Healing (combines with Forbidden idol, 10% cdr and an increase to healing bonuses) Damage (combines with Caulfield's Warhammer, 10% cdr and a bonus % to bonus AD) Magic (combines with Fiendish Codex, 10% cdr, bonus % of AP) Protection (combines with Glacial Shroud , 10% cdr and a bonus % to Armor) Magic Resist (combines with Kindle Gem, 10% cdr and a bonus % to MR)

You might place a cap on any of the bonuses to make them less useful to carries, while still allowing gold-starved supports to do some kind of damage

I think a core problem with this is that Sightstone, as an item, is not innately fun, and never will be: it was useful at a time when supports where using up their entire income and inventories for wards, but even then it wasn't genuinely fun to have. Now, we're at a time where sight wards are impossible to buy and everyone gets a free trinket, so Sightstone is merely a burden supports have to shoulder because they're still expected to itemize for vision. I'd say remove it entirely and buff trinkets if there ends up being a vision deficiency in-game: not only would this make supporting a bit more varied, as you'd have an extra item slot and more choice as to which trinket to pick, rather than the standard support + Oracle's combo, but it would also finally end the running issue of blaming the support for the team's lack of vision. Making everyone share equal responsibility for vision means everyone has to participate equally in the vision game, which means no individual player has an excuse anymore not to ward the map or check for enemy vision.

To be fair, warding in it of itself isn't very fun. It's more a responsibility if anything and your ward limit prevents you from doing crazy stuff with it (like lighting up an entire jungle).

This is true, and while I acknowledge that it's somewhat of a necessary evil to allow more fun and interesting plays to happen, I do think more could be done to make vision interesting, or at least less of a chore. Separating vision from itemization, and instead integrating it into the plant system through a diverse array of vision-related plants, could be a way of having players engage more with it at all levels of play, for example. Players even now are much more liable to interact with a Scryer's Bloom or the Scuttle Crab, and that sort of vision game could end up being much more engaging than the current item-based system if it were developed further.

Though that allows more vision control for the jungler than anyone else, which could be a problem.

That could be a possibility for the laning phase, but that also depends on plant placement. If you were to place plants near the tribush or river bush areas that were accessible to laners, those would be vision-based plants that would favor laners, and having plants whose vision operates only within the jungle would also limit the control junglers would have over vision overall.

I also think it would be a good idea to have different plant types whose importance would vary based on the game's stage. If you had a plant right over the base gates that shot a ward across a large distance once hit, for example, that would be especially useful in the late game, where attackers would want to scope out undefended parts of the base, and where defenders would want a lifeline into their own jungle, but wouldn't make such an impact early on.

Scryer's Bloom isn't really a jungler-exclusive vision tool even now, either, and beyond the first caps Scuttle Crab also becomes a common objective. More generally, the jungle in League opens up fast enough in games that its resources become available to all team members pretty quickly, so the only situation where the jungler would have too much vision control is if vision-based plants and objectives could be used from within the jungle to gain too much control over lanes.

Trackers knife...

Also what you're explaining has nothing to do with support, it has to do with vision.
