I am a Taric main. I have played under 50 games on him this whole season if I had to guess. I can still consider myself a Taric main for a couple reasons.
-
I still know how to play Taric very well. I know his damage, how tanky he is, how to use him, how to build him, and I know all this to a much higher degree than most Taric players at my elo.

Taric is my soul animal. He is my inspiration and a role model for me. Regardless of whether or not I play him in game I am always playing Taric in my heart because he has so many qualities that I strive towards. He is the champion that defines who I am.
People tend to have two different ideas of what it means to main something. There are people who main something because they love them, though to what degree and why varies. We, and many others, fall into that category. The love I feel for Taric is nothing like the love you feel for Kindred, but we both love our champs for reasons beyond their winrates or power levels.
Then there are those who consider a "main" to be something that you "main"ly play. To them I would be a Karthus main because 50% of my recent games have been Karthus games. There is nothing wrong in thinking like this. The issue is that both groups are using the same term to describe two different things.
Mains are both the champions that you couldn't play without, regardless of the frequency with which you play them, but mains are also the champions that you frequently play.
