Plenty of Issues Players have with Dynamic Queue
Long post sorry about that >.<
Alright so in short the community has several issues with Dynamic Queue. They consist all the way from toxicity & alienation to boosting with plenty of others in between. Some of these are cultural issues (like toxicity) which are not unique to this game mode. I am just going to focus on what arguably is the largest problem, and this is boosting and/or the legitimacy of the competitive ranked system.
Basically with Dynamic Queue(DQ) and Riot's stance over these last 6+ months they have for all intent and purposes said that the community complaining about DQ are wrong and that they (Riot) are correct that DQ is the best option for their competitive system.
_According to Riot "we requested DQ". In reality a very general survey was sent out to a select small percentage of the player base with extremely general questions that were in no way related to a DQ system. (Basically Riot sent out a survey with questions like "Would you want to play ranked with your friends?" and somehow took this incredibly general question that players were sent without any idea what Riot was thinking or what a dynamic queue even was, and are now using it as their one and only "piece of evidence" that the community wanted this.) In short the survey was not specific to Dynamic queue. The survey did not include a disclaimer relating to what the survey was focusing on, nor did it include any information about what a dynamic queue was. People took this survey blind with no information about what Riot was trying to get out of it or what they were even answering questions about. _
So now that we know how we got here let us look at moving forward. As I said above some of the issues which come to the surface with DQ are also within every other area of the game (toxicity) so I am not going to focus on them. Riot has the ability to fight this problem. They have made their position very clear here.
I am going to focus on the validity of the competitive ranked system with the DQ. In short solo queue players generally have 2 issues with DQ.
- (as noted by even Riot) it removes any meaning around an individual players rank.
- It removes any sort of validity to the leaderboard ranking system because group queue players can easily advance on the backs of others allowing them to reach tiers and divisions they would not otherwise be able to do on their own. (further proven by the huge amount and increase in boosting) Meaning not everyone reached their current position the same way. Others worked hard and played solo to get there. Others are carried. However everyone is ranked on the leaderboards as if they reached it playing by themselves by their own hard work which is not the case.
**Basically if Riot wants to put this whole argument to bed about how the DQ system really is not this large monster the educated & caring community sees it as then all they need to do is prove it. **
Riot has access to an insane amount of data and if the DQ system is an honest, legitimate, and competitive system then I would ask they they share this data and show us. I will be the first to apologize and shut up about it if the data said that DQ was a fair system.
Riot knows exactly what percentage of players are queuing with groups of 2 or more in ranked. Riot knows exactly the win % of players who queue in every group size 1-5 for each and every tier and division and can compare this with solo Q data. Riot knows exactly how often premades of various sizes are matched up against premades of the exact same size at every division and tier.
IMO Riot has not and will not share this unscripted and unfiltered data with us because it reflects exactly what the educated community has been saying from the beginning of DQ. That the system completely voids any legitimacy to the competitive leaderboard system. Which should be a line in the sand Riot is never willing to cross. Their entire game was built and exploded around the idea of a competitive game. The last thing Riot should ever want to do is create a system which voids any legitimacy to the ranking system, whether a legitimate actual issue or one perceived by their player base, it should be the very last thing Riot would ever want.
So far when Riot decides to just share only specific snapshots of data it should speak volumes to the actual truth. What they don't say should tell you all you need to know about the real truth.
Again I have no idea what the leaders at Riot are thinking and doing. Personally I am disappointed. How can they have all this specific data and yet they refuse to make logical decisions? How can they betray the very ideal that this game was founded upon? Instead Riot chooses to use a "survey" as their one and only piece of evidence / argument that we want DQ and that "DQ is amazing".
If Riot really wants to keep DQ (which it does) then at least for me all they have to do is prove to the player base that DQ does not provide advantages. All they have to do is share the specific data. If DQ is great and fair then prove it. Stop just spatting marketed scripted sentences and provide any sort of evidence about the truth.
- Show each tier and division a players win % for each and every group size 1-5 & compare it to solo/duo
- Show toxicity data & compare it to data from solo / duo
- Show us the % of matchmaking by group size. What % of games do you match against a premade of the exact same size? 2-5?
- What % of games do you match against a team of a different size? (example premade of 2 & premade of 3 matching against a 5 man premade. )
- Show us data displaying team balance for games involving premades compared to solo/duo (Meaing Riot has MMR data, show us the total MMR for matches. Show us they are balanced) compare it with the solo/duo data.
- Share data that displays (again at each tier and division) players who queue at every group size level 1-5, how close % wise is their MMR rating to their current ladder position. Or in short. Prove to us that players are not getting carried up the ladder to higher positions then their skill (MMR) reflects they should be again do this at every tier and division for every group queue size 1-5 and also compare this to data from the previous 2015 system.
Again, if DQ is a fair and balanced competitive ranking system and Riot has nothing to hide and the majority of your player base is wrong (which is what they are saying by not switching and remaining silent for over 6 months) then prove it to us. Share the data. I will be the first person to say I am sorry and shut up if you would just show us the truth. Show us all the unedited data proving there is no advantage with DQ and that the very base this game was founded upon, the validity of the competitive ranking system, still remains in tact.
To me Riot is not a company which communicates or makes any sort of changes unless there is a financial reason behind it. Riot went over 6 months without a single official word on the DQ system. Then suddenly we get a couple things on the matter. Why? My guess is enough people have stopped playing and it coincided with the DQ system or these people filled out the "goodbye" survey and listed DQ as the reason, that the people up top have noticed and they are finally looking to do something to quell the backlash and the financial loss they are taking.
Like many other people I want League of Legends to be a great game. I want to feel like my accomplishments are legitimate. I want to feel like everyone is playing on the same level playing field and that everyone has the exact same chances to succeed. That is the dream and the idea that made League of Legends so popular. Instead, today the feeling is that the validity of the ranking system is gone. There isn't one. For whatever reason Riot copied their quick play system and put a leaderboard behind it and then changed the name to "ranked". The consensus is that your rank in the system means nothing anymore. Everyone does not advance and play the same way. Some people make it on their own two feet while others take a piggy back ride.
